I don't see why not!

As long as he ain't sniffin' the Crazy Glue. (Ron frantically searching the entire house to remove all adhesives before Randy's arrival.) That's a "sticky proposition"...

An old friend of mine, a guitar player and avid lover of jazz and good music wanted me to post this on our forums.. This thing smokes! Great stuff! So far (two or three listens) I think the standouts are Smokin' Section, Stomp Yo' Feets, Play Nice; lots of odd-meter playing that really holds together - the blend is awesome. And Tenderly is something special as well; very nice intro that Joe put together. And I like the dynamics in Wealthy Street; it builds, and goes somewhere, every verse. Maybe the dynamics are due in part to the sparseness of the instrumentation; everybody's got a niche. Too many voices, it gets crowded; with the three distinct voices happening, all with their function, there's room to move. The blend is what it's all about; you are the glue, holding it all together. Great drum sound on this record; subtlety along with a huge amount of propulsion throughout that I haven't heard anybody else do as well; and I ain't saying that just because I know you. Glad to see you've found the right mix of guys (maybe it's the other way around.) Jim Leitch

There is a Lonehill CD of the Jim Hall Trios that includes the tracks with him playing from the Chico Trio - even they don't seem to believe in the Hamilton Trio with Howard Robert. Whenever I find the time to CDR this, I will think of you .... Thanks Mike! And it's not even really stealin'... Happy 85th Birthday Chico Hamilton! I saw him play 1n May of 1988, at Quasimotos's in Berlin (west Berlin at that time).. I was touring Germany and Austria with the San Francisco Mime Troupe, performing an anti-apartheid play. I and some of the other musicians in the show decided to go and hear Chico when we found out he was playing this famous Berlin jazz club, and my old friend Tim Ries was supposed to be on the band and wasn't. (Another story). Chico & his band sounded great! and I remember smoking some hash on one of his breaks that got me so high I got lost trying to get back to the house I was staying at!

I remember reading an interview with Pretty Purdie where he say's that HE played drums on all the Beatles albums as well. Did he do the soundtrack as well?

It's too bad that people are dumb enough to believe that a billionaire Republican with a yacht that costs more than most people make in their lifetimes gives a shit about the working man. WAKE UP, BOZOS! Word... DeVos doesn't have a clue about how most of the folks in our state live.. DeVos is cheap! 3 yrs ago I played a gig Steve Talaga booked as a trio and it turned out to be a graduation party for one of DeVos's brats at the DeVos Mansion .. The load in load out was a nightmare, we had to park our cars a half mile away and walk to the terrace we were playing on. And the money was really sad.. For a 4 hr hit we got $125. apiece and they didn't want us to have any food or drink, but did have the kitchen make sandwiches for us

One of our members, Mark Mead, aka "Uncle Skid" made the transition from guitar to drums, has been taking drum lessons from me and is doing great! He's working out of John Riley's bop drumming book, Ted Reed's "Syncopation", Ruper Kettles "9 Etudes For Drumset", and a Garwood Whaley snare drum duet book that has some challenging duets!

That´s one I´ve been wishing to pick for long, Red! Another good one with Little Jazz (and with the Rabbit) is "Alive! At the Village Gate!" (Verve, 1962). Some good blowing there! Just listen to Hawk on "Satin doll" BTW: someone, in an old thread at AAJ, mentioned that in the original vinyl version, Eldridge was dreadfully out of tune in "The rabbit in jazz", but this was corrected when transfered to CD. Anyone knew about this? And just another live recording, with the same title, the same rhythm section (Tommy Flanagan, Major Holley, and Eddie Locke) and from the same year... but without Hodges and Eldridge is "Alive! At the Village Vanguard!" (Verve, 1962). Oh man, that version of "It´s the talk of the town" is simply..... My dad, Arno Marsh, likes to tell his Hawk story.. Back in 1966 Arno was on the road with Harry James's' band and after a show, went into the hotel lounge to get a taste. it turned out that Roy Eldridge was playing in the lounge with a rhythm section, and when he saw that my dad had a horn case, invited him to sit in.. So Arno is getting his horn out and who should walk into the lounge and sits at the front table less than 5 feet away but Coleman Hawkins! .. He says to Arno, "You gonna play?" and Arno says, "Yeah, Roy ask me if I wanted to play".. Arno straps his horn on, looks at Roy and says, "What do you want to play?" and Roy says, "How 'bout 'Body & Soul'?" True story! I've been working Body & Soul with my chromatic harmonica.. The bridge is the hardest to play because the chords are in a weird open position on the harmonica.. I'm getting closer to playin' it onstage though

I've played a few gigs with Bill and always had a great time. He is not only a great organist, but also has a unique vocal style and a colorful personality to match. First time I met and heard Bill play was in the late 70's. He was playing really greazy organ with "Blind Brian Lee's" blues band.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Damn that's a funny show! Six Feet Under is one of the best shows of the last decade. I agree. We watch stuff like CSI & House.....and some of the Brit mystery/political stuff. That 3 DVD series 'House of Cards' about the super ambitious PM is pretty good stuff. Tonite we'll start in on "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" series. Where on Lake Superior? I just got back from a week in Munising where I kayaked and mtn biked until Friday... I actually had a nice swim last Thursday in the BIG DIP..

I thought Baker's in Detroit held claim to the title of "oldest continually running Jazz club"... Baker's has been in operation over 71 years now and at the same location..

Nightly Live Chat Cd Discussions and BS

Sometimes the stats on the bottom of the forums will show a username in the live chat and I'll go in and nobody is there! This happened a week or so ago. It said that one member, Jim Alfredson was in live chat and several times I tried going in and though his username was on the bar for quite a while he was not to be found! Is there an option for members to chat in secrecy?
