  1. Yes, it is. It's included on Spencer's Legends of Acid Jazz twofer. Now playing: I saw this trio approximately 39 years after this was recorded. I don't know how often they have worked together over the years, but that is some longevity.
  2. 'Solitude' as a Latin tune instead of receiving the usual ballad treatment is a treat. I need to pick up the other album by this group.
  3. w/ Hugh Lawson, Sirone and Victor Lewis.
  4. Disc 1: I need to revisit the RCA box soon.
  5. There are two copies of Sonny's Prestige box for under $30 on Amazon, although one is without the box and giant booklet. I found mine in a store for $29.99 on Sonny's birthday last year, coincidentally.
  6. I'll be spinning some Sonny today. I hope he is enjoying his birthday.
  7. Hey, a Noj appearance! I'm glad things are going well! I wonder about some other people from AAJ and JC who have stopped posting here or never made the migration. I hope Fran is doing okay. He was one of the oldest members.
  8. Don Lewis - The Colour of Time: Lewis owned a jazz club in Milwaukee and was killed by an employee in 2016. I made a mental note to check out his music and recently bought his The Other Side of Town. Talk about tone! If you played a track from of his on a blindfold test, jaws would drop. His sound was gorgeous.
  9. Ingrid Jensen - At Sea: Jensen is one of the best trumpeters on the scene.
  10. Chet Baker - Live in Chateauvallon, 1978: This is a smoking live album, with Phil Markowitz, Scott Lee and Jeff Brillinger.
  11. Chet Baker - The Newport Years, Vol. 1: I think this one got lost among the shuffle when I acquired several Baker albums at a library sale last summer. It ended up in one pile without getting ripped. On my first listen, I am enjoying it immensely.
  12. The Complete Roost Johnny Smith Small Group Sessions, Disc 2: I bought this for 70 bucks a few years ago. Like many larger Mosaics, I need to revisit it more often. Beautiful stuff.
  13. Ted Kooshian - Underdog and Other Stories: An album of TV themes!
  14. Cyrus Chestnut - The Dark Before the Dawn: Today's listening went from Benny Green to a run through all 3 Chestnut albums I own, with Revelation and Earth Stories being the other two. Coincidentally, the last time I saw Chestnut was with Green, Kenny Barron and George Cables as part of a great piano tribute to Monk.
  15. I've never felt that way about this recording, where the audience provides enthusiastic applause at appropriate times (and deservedly so!). I think this album was the first I heard with Joe Henderson and Al Foster and I have enjoyed returning to it over the years. It is musically strong enough to have been released even if the sound quality had been far worse, in my opinion.
  16. Disc 1: This is my third run through this partial set (no Disc 3), and this Eureka Brass Band album may be my favorite session on this excellent set.
  17. Disc 1: I tend to start out the morning with organ jazz, but this is a good way to start the day.
  18. Disc 1. I won an incomplete set on eBay (no box, minus Disc 3) for less than $17 after shipping. This has been a set that I have been curious about and it was a price that I couldn't pass up.
  19. This one works for me.
  20. Bill Heid - Dark Secrets: This one is not to be missed by organ fans. Even his comping is fantastic! I wish he'd return to Cleveland, but I'd travel to his hometown of Pittsburgh to catch him again.
