  1. it's either this or a digital seeing eye dog.
  2. well, they're a little bit more but the doctor, who I like but don't know well, thinks they'll help a lot with some night-vision issues I'm having. yes, I have progressive lenses now - I hope they don't use too much noise reduction.
  3. what's he directing? Traffic?
  4. just went to the eye guy and they want me to try digital progressive lenses - I have really bad eyesight (very nearsighted) and difficulty at night in particular. This whole thing is apparently new and they think it will help a lot. Anybody else out there try digital progressive lenses?
  5. now I can add to my promo sheet: "At one point he had higher sales than Sun Ra."
  6. let that be a lesson, kiddies - smoking is bad.
  7. Bertrand - if I'd known you were going I would have taken the day off and headed up there - time for a reunion - but please, this time, leave the inflatables at home.
  8. you sound like Armstrong talking about the beboppers- and let's not forget that Ben Webster beat up women. Dizzy and Max did his, too. Jazz was full of degenerate junkies, guys who cheated on their wives and ran around with hookers. Not to mention the boozers and the guys who ran out on their kids. Or who did hard time. boy, things HAVE changed -
  9. years ago I played with him at a jam session in Bridgeport. He knocked everybody out. Chops galore, great straight-ahead player.
  10. good stuff - I also recommend the Caudhill Family.
  11. I though this was him:
  12. bumping for the night shift -
  13. hey, look, I did rap before it was trendy to do rap. But when I did rap, you could understand the woids.**** ****see: Sunshine Boys
  14. I just saw him on tv about a week ago - I am completely baffled as to his appeal - the guy can't sing and can't play. Aside from that, he's ok.
  15. I'm bumping this, as I've been catching up with some older posts on Chris' blog today - I find this blog to be one of the most signficant contributions today, anywhere, in jazz and cultural history. Best thing on the net on the subject, and I do not exaggerate. I hope it ends up in book form, somewhere. Amazing stuff, Chris, if you're reading, and sorry it has taken me so long to say something in public (the first three months of this year have just evaporated for me in a haze of editing and band rehearsale) -
  16. something interesting, I think, is how much Gene Williams (at least with the Thornhill band, I don't remember the other stuff) sounds like Harry Connick. Especially on Sorta Kinda.
  17. I like the late 40s, early 50s - also, beware her hillbilly parodies (she did them with Paul Weston, to whom she was married, I think).
  18. let's not forger Jimmy Bryant - kind of a hvbrid.
  19. I love Sweatman, the Roland Kirk of his day.
  20. I'd forgotten about that terrible thing with Bozy, who was a nice man. Sick people.
  21. 1) Stormy Weather 2) Stormy Weather 3) Stormy Weather
  22. well I, for one, am sorely disappointed. I mean, look at Toyota. Look at Enron. Look at the Bush administration. Best personal service I ever had.
  23. hey, did you guys know that Bernie Hamilton. who played the sergeant on Starsky and Hutch, was Chico's brother? (off topic, I know, but interesting) (and one can see the resemblance)
  24. wish I could get down, but will be in Seattle part of that time and stuck in Maine the rest - of course, I could send a bunch of guys with a car with tinted windows and a blindfold and have them drive you up here - but then I would have to kill you if you saw any landmarks.
