  1. in 1495, Columbus made the trip alive - that's how I remember that -
  2. they shoulda done it right the first time -
  3. In 1493, Columbus sailed the deep blue sea - that's how I remember that -
  4. wait - wasn't 1066 the year that George W. went on that ship and said " Mission Accomplished" ?
  5. the hell with Van Gelder - get me a clean LP and I'll master those recordings nicely - also, what I don't get is, if Sunnenblick paid for the recording, he should own the master tapes, and just get somebody else to re-do it -
  6. it's a deal - somebody buys it for me, it's yours -
  7. where did these Chadbourne reviews appear?
  8. honestly, I would not accept a Proper box even as a gift, as they continually botch the sound so badly -
  9. I went back into the job market at age 47 after spending enough time running my own business (and taking care of my kids) to ensure that I had very little marketable career left. I consider myself lucky, as I landed a decent-paying job with an insurance company, with good benefits as well. I've just finished my third year at the company and, guess what? Though I've been a model employee, with all good evaluations, I am being turned down for internal jobs right and left, almost all of which have gone to MUCH younger people. Aside from the fact that I've contacted a lawyer and am thinking (with much trepidation) of filing a formal legal complaint, I have decided to write a book about this, as I suspect, from what I have heard, that this is a big problem in the wider world (working title: "Old Like Me"). I am looking for not only your feelings on the subject, but for people who would be willing to be interviewed for the book (and I am willing to protect names) -
  10. it's funny, because I picked up the LP years ago and, though Dave plays well, his playing always seemed a little off - and I never made the connection until Triglia told me the story. I believe it, as Triglia, insane as he is, has always been a good and accurate source, recounting events and conversations that have invariably been confirmed by third parties. I never asked Dave about THIS, but, knowing him as I did, it does not surprise me. On the other hand, Burns clearly was non-plussed, as he named Davey as one of his favorite alto players in an Encyclopedia of Jazz poll -
  11. I figure it explains that, even though he's incoherent, he's incoherent in a musically progressive way -
  12. I have a theory that Clem is really Stanley Crouch, on those days that he takes his meds -
  13. inrteresting little piece of info about the Ralph Burns, and passed on to me by Bill Triglia - Bill told me that Dave Schildkraut, for some reason or another, was bugged about something the day of the sesion and deliberately played out of tune - which he does -
  14. well, sooner or later this had to turn into a let's-attack-Francis Davis thread - now I HAVE to get this CD so I can defend him -
  15. I agree, Chuck, and know we can remain friends - so let's get back to Clem and Faulkner -
  16. no, just fighting back -
  17. so, if I read this corectly, than Clementine's the narcissist - and Chuck, as well, for recognizing it (takes one to know one?)
  18. not really sure that anything here meets the classic (or correct) definition of narcissism -
  19. nothing laughable about those old records, songs or arrangements - the writing was excellent, playing wonderfully idiomatic - let's just understand that it's hard to view 1920s bands through 21st century eyes -
  20. Actually, Cliff Edwards scatted even earlier than Armstrong -
  21. thanks, jazzbo - I'll have to find my copy, as the cover looks very different, as I recall -
  22. I'm going to disagree about the need for a pro to do the job - I learned photoshop on my own by just practicing and practicing, and did my own work for both the front and rear covers of my jazz history, which looks pretty damn good -
  23. hey, I like that Voices of Haiti LP - are you referring to the Folkways?
  24. I'm not sure of the exact percentages - if Jack is around, he may want to chime in -
  25. well, I'm going to use this to plug a member of this board - the only record/CD place in the universe that I trust, that gives not only an honest trade-in for credit or cash, but that also tells you the truth about the value of something, is Stereo Jack's, in Cambridge Massachusettes - so that's where I go -
