  2. well, I always felt like I was the Messiah -
  3. last teaser for the new project: Matthew Shipp Plays the Music of Allen Lowe: I Alone: the Everlasting Beauty of Monotony here's the title piece: https://soundcloud.com/allenlowe-1/i-alone-the-everlasting-beauty-of-monotony
  4. wow; need to pitch correct, but double wow.
  5. you kinda gotta know what the usual key was - or just certain common sense things; if it's in E you know that's wrong, so the right key is probably either Eb of F; depends on the tune (like Star Eyes is Eb); A is a similar problem, could be Bb or Ab; though if you know from other tunes on the same session that it's running fast, then you can transpose accordingly, Let me add, however, that Amadeus' pitch changing process is not very good; I use it and I like the program, but the pitch thing is almost not useable in my experience.
  6. Larry, that session was originally on some sort of bootleg LP; one of the most annoying things related to it is how Farah Jasmine Griffin, in her generally clueless Billy H. bio, misconstrues the whole conversation as showing Rowles to be the intrusive and inappropriate white man, and out of his musical depth.
  7. oh; that makes it worse. Because it doesn't say Billie Holiday Centennial Edition, it says Lady In Satin Centennial Edition. but thanks for clarifying.
  8. am I alone here? How can you have a Centennial edition unless it's 100 years old?
  9. she is very good, but I keep thinking this is a Sam Rivers tribute.
  10. I guess she beat the ODJB.
  11. didn't know it was recorded in 1915.
  12. Schildkraut alert, I do believe.
  13. c'mon; daddy needs a new laptop (on its way to my door today).
  14. thank you just a little footnote on why I do not like Maine; 1) we had Shipp up here for 3 days; there is a local promoter who does jazz concerts, and he told me, a few months back that he already had one March concert set and could not do more than one a month. so I'm on his mailing list - and he did 3 concerts this month, all last minute additions; the real crime was that he didn't want to book me playing with Shipp 2) after the recording, the drummer, an extremely nice guy and excellent player, goes on Facebook to say how overwhelmed he was at having recorded with Matt Shipp and Michael Gregory Jackson; at the bottom of the post he threw in a 'thank you' to me for setting it up, like I was the booking agent. Clueless, I am certain, but that's the way things roll up here. oi, Maine, land of the Great Dis'. outta here in 12 months.
  15. the Belgians (and they're so damned evil) will be issuing it, I believe, in 12 separate 3 cd sets -
  16. the title is after one of those old Baptist sermon records from the '20s - yes, this will be part of a one CD set, Matt Shipp Plays the Music of Allen Lowe - probably by summer -
  17. also, turns out I have 12 copies left.
  18. Really the Blues is going to be reissued in the next year by a Belgian label, all 36 cds - the first box of 9 CDs came out here, and that was it; since the whole thing will be reissued I am selling off my stock in boxes - each 9 CD set for $38 shipped media in the USA; I only have 7; these are real CDs, not CDRs prefer payal my paypal address is alowe5@maine.rr.com thanks -
  19. not a bad thing as I prefer George Sr. on alto.
  20. here we go, a piece called 20 Minutes to Hell, with Shipp, Michael Gregory Jackson, me on alto, Chris Klaxton on trumpet: https://soundcloud.com/allenlowe-1/20-minutes-to-hell
