  1. Dude, that's a MUST (and by the way, Harold also recommended this and should get some of the credit). The recordings in the JSP box are the ones for which Morton is famous. The LOC recordings, while no doubt excellent, are primarily of interest for the "historical" (as interpreted by Morton) background they provide and the chance they give to get to "know" him better as a person and a musician. At least that's my impression from what I've read, not yet having heard them myself.
  2. Has anyone had a chance yet to compare the sound of this box to that on the US 20-bit K2's of "Sunday" and "Waltz"? I know that Tjobbe said in an earlier post that the liners imply that the remasterings are the same, but I've seen at least one review of the Japanese box (on Amazon, I think) indicating that the sound of the box is better than on the US 20-bit K2's.
  3. How long ago did you order it?
  4. I can see why they're not too keen on the possibility of cancelling it.
  5. TM, if you don't have any Morton at all, you should definitely start with the JSP box: This 5-CD box sells for around $25 or less, has received many rave reviews, and features excellent remastered sound by the late John R.T. Davies, one of the most respected 78-restoration engineers. While the JSP label and its owner, John Steadman, have more recently been embroiled in a lot of controversy (and litigation), this earlier legitimate issue is the real thing, and a credit to Davies' famous engineering skills. As I said, it's a terrific, and relatively inexpensive, place to start. Here's the page on Amazon with reviews and sound samples.
  6. My band's transitional: Beach Boyz II Men At Work
  7. Dammit, Kalo! Now we'll NEVER be able to keep him under control.
  8. Apparently there are several "editions' floating around, but here's one I found.... Robert Tilton farting video ← ← you gotta see > # 4! < that one is just sublime. this guy that makes them really came into his own (err) on that installment. ← I practically farted watching both of those, I was laughing so hard. Here are editions #1 and #2. The way that the sound effects match up with the language in #2 is especially hysterical.
  9. David, I haven't had a chance to listen to the Sony box again since my last post in this thread, but I did just randomly sample some of the tracks on the AMG site, here. While the sound may be a bit bright (and/or shrill and/or harsh) for Hans' and Lon's taste, it does reveal a lot of detail and has a lot of presence that is lacking on many of the currently available European issues. Presumably, this is largely because Sony used the best available sources, which would not have been available to the European labels. If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend that you check out the track samples on the AMG site, and perhaps still pick up the Sony box at some point.
  10. Mrs. Vibes is VERY purty. And I'd watch out for Dan, if I were you--he's 40 now and going through mid-life crisis.
  11. Mosaic DOES number--and ship--the regular box sets in sequence as they are sold. It is only the Selects that are not sold and shipped in strict sequential order. So your Ory set is the 955th set sold.
  12. Pete, thanks for posting the Ramsey piece. I had been debating whether to replace my two 20-bit K2's with this set and, like you, I think he's convinced me. EDIT: And I'm eagerly awaiting that 50th anniversary edition with liners by Michael Fitzgerald.
  13. You know, I've been kinda bummed about this "landmark" birthday, but thanks Ron, this makes it all worthwhile. You can reciprocate next year when I turn 50.
  14. If he won't do it for you Lon, I will. -_- (Just send me the airfare and hotel costs, if you don't mind. I'll pay for the drink).
  15. You mean Randy ISN'T a robot???
  16. Then this must be wrong (wouldn't be the first time).
  17. Also, aren't the first sets of each evening contained in "Consecration" and the second sets contained in "Last Waltz", and not the other way around?
  18. Then doesn't that disqualify YOU, Allen?
  19. Indeed! In fact, here's a photo of them modeling their new suits from Buddy (remember, this was during Buddy's "hip" period):
  20. Transcript of a secretly-made tape of Buddy addressing the Muppets after the show:
  21. Happy Birthday, Dan! BTW, now that you're 40, you can OFFICIALLY take on the role of the crotchety, conservative, middle-aged guy you've been rehearsing so well for years. Just kidding. Well, sort of. Seriously, though, have a great birthday!
  22. Are you using that word as an adjective? Or as a verb?
  23. Hey! Where's my shipping material, catalogs, and receipt???
  24. Thanks, Chris! Please keep us posted if you hear anything. I just hope that nobody at Concord--and especially Norman Lear--takes my "socially-responsible feel-good" comment the wrong way. I actually have a great deal of respect for Mr. Lear and his many artistic, societal, and philanthropic contributions.
