  1. It's what collectors of antiques call "patina."
  2. From today's Philadelphia Inquirer (nice obit, except that she says Coltrane revolutionized alto playing). Apparently, Jimmy's sisters and kids still live in the Philly area.
  3. Just received this today from CDQuest (through Amazon). Legit as legit can be. Other than the no-numbered booklet, the only difference is a "Disc Made in Germany" sticker on the shrinkwrap. SWEET. Mine's on the way from Caiman (through Amazon)--shipped on Monday.
  4. Allen, To what I'm sure will be the jubilation of the rest of the Board, I've decided to concede the debate. Besides, how can ANYONE argue with the music of Nat "King" Cole.
  5. But that IS supply and demand (at least, that's what they taught us at the Wharton School ). OK, it's official--we can now trot out THIS thing:
  6. Looks sorta like Louis Armstrong trying to blow a sax the way he'd blow a trumpet.
  7. No, all that would mean on the Supply and Demand graph for a particular product is that the Demand line would be more horizontal (less elasticity of demand) and at a higher price, i.e., that purchasers are willing to pay a higher price per unit of the product no matter what the level of supply. You know, Allen, I think if we continue this discussion much longer, we'll make the rest of the board do this: Or even worse, this:
  8. Something tells me Mr. Cuscuna and associates would not count themselves among the Comrades.
  9. With all due respect, Alan, "whatever the market will bear" IS the theory of supply and demand. That's what that classic graph means, in economics/mathematics terms. Dammit, now I've done it--turned this into an economics thread. (well, I WAS an econ. major in college )
  10. Allen, A little Economics 101: And yes, this WILL be on the final exam.
  11. Thanks for the notice and link. Listening now... Rod --- Now playing: WKCR - Columbia University Me too. Thanks.
  12. If it weren't for that same Capitalist system that encourages entrepreneurs to produce these sets so they can sell them for $16 or $17 per disc, we wouldn't even be having this discussion ('cause there'd be no Mosaics).
  13. I think you missed one "GREED", but maybe I counted wrong.
  14. Making statements like that, you're lucky this isn't the early 1950's. Then again, if it WAS, just think of all the great live jazz shows we'd be seeing.
  15. ?? ("It"=the camera--the joke would make more sense if the lens cap was off ) aaaaah, I see. I was scratchin' my head over that. (hmm, let's see...i'm showing a camera to another camera...hmmmm...) --- Now playing: Carmell Jones - Toddler But it's a cool-looking camera . . . and an even cooler-looking CD collection. B-)
  16. ?? ("It"=the camera--the joke would make more sense if the lens cap was off )
  17. GoDaddy is getting three times the exposure and publicity now as a result of what happened. Go figure. What kind of exposure is that babe in the commercial getting?
  18. You thought I was kidding. eh? --- Now playing: Frank Strazzeri - Lope In Oh sh*t, Man, you're not supposed to use it on YOURSELF!
  19. DUDE!!! (Only thing is, does this imply Grant was a guzzler? )
  20. You could just make it black and white, or, uh, GREEN and white.
  21. That's nice, Jeff, but here's a more modern (and recognizable) one:
  22. I'm pretty sure eveything I've gotten from them has come from Miami.
  23. Excellent, Jim! Now THERE'S some iron! B-)
