  1. Did you ever get to operate the Bubble Machine?
  2. I did a quick search at CD Universe for the ones in which I have an interest, and didn't see any others. Which is why I speculated that something's up with the Farlow set, since it seems to be so widely available at great prices (CD Universe, Amazon, Tower, etc.).
  3. I've had a lot of good luck with Caiman.com on Amazon (one of the merchants w/$48 Farlow set). If they actually have what you order (their listing on this set says they do), they send it out w/in a couple of days, well-packed and brand-new. If they don't actually have it in stock, an email inquiry in a few days will get you an immediate refund. And if an item is defective, they'll pay for return postage (happened to me once). I ordered the Farlow set from them today.
  4. And U.S. Amazon has it for $62.99 with free shipping, while some of the Amazon Marketplace sellers (e.g., Caiman.com ) have it for $48.09 plus $2.49 shipping! I wonder if perhaps this set isn't selling nearly as well as had been expected in Europe and/or the U.S., and with a commitment to a run of 10,000 they're trying to dump some. Mosaic may not drop the price of an individual set they sell directly, but they can accomplish the same thing by lowering the price on European sets sold in Europe and the U.S. Or, on the other hand, Universal may be acting independently of Mosaic.
  5. TRANEMONK DOUBLE ALERT!!! Forget my last post. Amazon.com has the Farlow European Mosaic set for $62.99 with free shipping but, even better, a couple of the Amazon Marketplace merchants have it for $48.09 plus $2.49 shipping. That's $50.58 delivered, compared to $129 delivered from Mosaic! One of the merchants is Caiman.com, and I've had many great experiences with them WHEN they actually have the item in stock. They're showing 8 in stock now. Their stuff is all brand-new, and they even pay return shipping if an item is defective (happened to me once). Here is their listing for the Farlow set, and here is the main Amazon listing. I cancelled my CD Universe order and placed one with Caiman/Amazon. Let us know what you decide to do.
  6. Want me to pick you up and drive you?
  7. I won't (can't speak for the other knuckleheads). The man's a legend, and it's something of which you should be quite proud.
  8. TRANEMONK ALERT!!! Before you order the Farlow set direct from Mosaic, be aware that the European licensed version (identical to the domestic version except different catalog number and not individually numbered, although still one of the limited edition of 10,000) is available right now as an import at CD Universe for $62.09 plus $2.99 shipping, for a total of $65.08--about HALF the cost if purchased from Mosaic. European Farlow Mosaic at CD Universe Tower.com also has it for slightly more. If I were you, I'd buy this set at CD Universe (which I just did), and spend your Mosaic gift card on something you can't get elsewhere for half the Mosaic price.
  9. CD Universe has the European Farlow set for $62.09 + $2.99 shipping, for a total delivered price of $65.08! Tal Farlow European Mosaic at CD Universe
  10. ....I hear they're paying $7.50 per hour! You'll make more if you just stick to Mosaics.
  11. It's listed as an import. And that's with free shipping (although Tower.com started charging sales tax last year). So, is it worth an extra $50-60 to get a numbered US set?
  12. Oh man, I can see a whole Mosaic "Complete Original Star Trek 1960's Sessions" developing from this, including: the lost Nichelle Nichols/George Takei Duets, the famous "Leonard Nimoy Sings Black Sabbath" sessions, the breakout double-LP "James Doohan Plays Monk on Bagpipes," and of course DeForest Kelley's haunting tribute to JJ Johnson, "Bones on Bone."
  13. For some reason, the audio samples of "The Complete Jim Nabors Columbia Sessions" aren't functioning on the Mosaic site, so I've been asked to post them here. They may take a few seconds to load, so try to be patient. This one's AfricaBrass' personal favorite, and fortunately for him the set includes 5 alternate takes: Riffin' On Tony O (Alternate Take 3) (previously unreleased) This is one that Brad has been known to spin over and over for hours on end: Jim Jumps In And finally, Chris Olivarez purchased the entire 14 disc set just for this one previously unreleased track: Nabors Does Coke (previously unreleased)
  14. Well, I may have started the hijacking, but AfricaBrass inspired it.
  15. Congratulations! And just in time to watch his first Super Bowl!
  16. I believe this is what they call Method Acting.
  17. Dude, that wasn't acting, though! You're right, Dude! [as we play air-guitar together]
  18. You know, Cuscuna's going to put all these in "Upcoming Releases" just to spite us.
  19. Keanu's greatest triumph was "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." It's been all downhill from there.
  20. Isn't that what Connie Selleca said to John? Of course, she was talking about his keyboard playing.
  21. Isn't that what Connie Selleca said to John?
  22. Me too. The Welk set shouldn't go OOP for some time, and in the interim I'll have money left in the budget to preorder this must-have Mosaic:
  23. Ron, My concern with your buying the Select is that it won't be good enough for you and that you'll want all the alternative takes, especially his sessions with Yanni No need to worry, Brad. I already have the Revenant "Yanni Exposed" box, which includes his sessions with Kenny (including all alternates), plus 2 CD's of exclusive interviews about his tumultuous years with Linda Evans. I'm so glad they delayed putting out the Ayler box in favor of getting this one out first.
  24. Just saw the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra Saturday night at the Smithsonian in D.C. They played at a program where Skitch Henderson (age 87) received the James Smithson Bicentennial Medal. Long before Skitch led the Tonight Show Band for Steve Allen, Jack Paar, and Johnny Carson, he worked with the Dorsey Band for a while (when Frank Sinatra was the vocalist), and ended up being Sinatra's music director when he went out on his own. The Dorsey Orchestra was great, as was Skitch, who was "interviewed" on stage before the band came out and was as sharp as a tack.
  25. And AfricaBrass just traded me this one in exchange for any future ownership interest I may obtain in a prospective Art Pepper Discovery Sessions Select: [Missed your chance, Brad--on both counts]
