I tried ordering the Johnny Richards from them yesterday when it was still listed as "low stock." Unfortunately, a telephone call to them today revealed that it actually was not in stock (and my order was automatically cancelled). I'd suggest that anyone else placing an order make a similar call. For what it's worth, the Johnny Richards was listed as "out of stock" when I checked the the other titles that are noted in my previous post. (still listed as "low stock") I just checked my bank and an authorization has been made on my account for the amount of the Bob Brookmeyer Select I ordered yesterday. Not to pick nits, but my purchase of the Richards yesterday was also immediately authorized by my credit card company, and the out-of-stock status was apparently not discovered until my call today when the customer service rep placed me on hold, and returned to tell me that the distributor (whom I assume is the same for all the Selects) actually doesn't have any stock. I hope the situation is different with the Brookmeyer, et al., but I'd still suggest making a call (Keenzo's phone number is available on the site) to verify that they're really available.

MOSAIC SELECT AVAILABILITY ALERT Several of the now-OOP Selects appear to be available at a reasonable price ($43.71 + $5.60 shipping) on this site: http://www.keenzo.com/ Search for "Mosaic Select," and also for some individual artists (e.g., Dexter Gordon) who don't appear in the "Mosaic Select" search results, for some reason. As always, carpe diem. EDIT: The Gordon Select
-
I received a shipping notice for the Gordon Select, also, even though I was told by someone at Mosaic AFTER I placed my order that it had been listed on the web site in error, and that I would be receiving notice that it was in fact unavailable. In the interim, I ordered another copy from Amazon Marketplace, and if I receive both, I'll have a copy available for someone here. I'll post in this thread if that comes to pass (no PMs until then, please ).

Remember, folks, that the OOP Selects may still be available from other sources at fairly reasonable prices, such as the Gordon and the Shank/Cooper (also check Ebay, DeepDiscount.com, Buy.com, etc.). But I wouldn't wait too long on those.
-
That's for pointing that out. I just ordered one. We'll see what happens. I did too. But I then called Mosaic and was told that it is, indeed, sold out. Incidentally, the Gordon Select, like virtually all of the others, is still available from other sources (Amazon Marketplace, Ebay, etc.), and often for less than the shipped price from Mosaic. But who knows how much longer they'll continue to be available, given this news.

Carmell Jones and Randy Weston Selects in "Running Low"

Carmell Jones has now been moved from "Running Low" to "Last Chance." -
If that hooks you, blind-blake, don't miss his 3rd and 5th symphonies. The 5th in particular is breathtaking - a slow movement guaranteed to turn you to jelly! I'll definitely check it out! Got the Delius on order from the library and am looking forward to that one, as well. Got a question for you guys (Bev and blind-blake): are the inside 2 pages of the booklet inserts for those 2 EMI "British Composers" series CDs (VW and Delius) completely blank? I recently snagged a brand-new copy of the now-OOP Frank Bridge CD in that series, and the inside 2 pages of the insert are blank! I was wondering if that's uniform throughout the series. Ron, the VW I have has notes. Thanks for checking. I wonder if it's just the Frank Bridge? Or maybe just my copy?

Must have been a web site error--just got a shipping notice for both sets, and the page for the Boogie Woogie Select no longer indicates that it's backordered. And they both arrived this afternoon! Wow - that's quick. Surprised the heck out of me! Ordered on Tuesday afternoon, received a "next 24 hours" shipping notice on Wednesday morning, and retrieved them from my front porch on Wednesday afternoon! -

Just ordered this along with the Boogie Woogie Select, which I noticed afterwards is backordered until APRIL (of 2010, I presume). -
Two of Bev's favorites.

That DOES kinda make the whole credit-card-billing thing go down a bit better.

Not sure i see any real problem w/that one...Harry James is ok by me fqr more often than not...Buddy Rich & Red Kelley (aka Uncle Fester) laying down a nice groove, a very Basie-ish chart (if you didn't already know it was "Green Onions", would you guess, or would you think it was jsut some Basie thing?), electric piano (in a Harry James band! in 1965!)...not crazy about that clarinet solo, but that's when I turn towards the rhythm section...the only thing I would even think about "counteracting" is those glasses/haircuts combos, but hell, it was 1965 and this was a big band... Sorry, but for me, this particular cover creates a bit of cognitive dissonance. I think Buddy did a better job of covering this kind of stuff with his own big band a few years later. But that's just me.

Seems to me that the Root Doctor version just HAS to be up on YouTube, if for no other reason than simply to counteract THIS:
