  1. OK, Philly organissimo fans, it's official: a very nice, lengthy review (3 stars) of "Groovadelphia" appears in tomorrow's (Sunday) Inquirer. I'll try to post it tomorrow when it's on-line. Don't forget to listen to WRTI (90.1 FM) tonight at 6:45 PM to hear Jim Alfredson interviewed by Jeff Duperon.
  2. I saw Mabern a few years ago with Eric Alexander at Art After 5 at the Philly Art Museum (ever hear of that? ). He was very friendly after the show, and even drew a little picture for my daughter when she asked for an autograph. I guess you guys didn't discuss that you have that in common.
  3. Oh--for a minute there, I thought this thread was about these guys:
  4. Dude, I'm the Master. My services are available . . . . . for a small fee.
  5. Different time period--the Mosaic is the early-50s trio with Barney Kessel on guitar and no drummer. The box you're getting is the late '50s trio with Ed Thigpen on drums and no guitarist.
  6. Here's what you're getting (I googled "Oscar Peterson," "The Songbooks," Verve, and the UPC code from the Tower page): http://www.grigorian.com/webstore/view.php?iid=353291 5 discs--a Canadian release by Verve. Looks like a great deal!
  7. Gee, you sure you can afford that one? By the way, when should I pick you up at Philly airport for the organissimo show this coming week? I'd be there tomorrow if I could - I love youse guys! (do you all talk that way??) Just some of the natives--and only SOUTH Philly natives, at that.

  9. Bumped as a reminder. Give a listen tomorrow (Saturday) evening at 6:45 PM, folks! Just follow the instructions above.
  10. I'd even be willing to spring for the cost of a can of Rustoleum if they did reissue it in the rust box.
  11. Aggie, you're giving the rest of us some ammo, whenever we feel the need to humiliate you! LOL - Trust me, there's plenty of ammo in about 8700 of my other posts! Oh yeah? What's in the other 153 posts?
  12. And if you can manage to stay until Tuesday (or even come back!): Tuesday, 16 June 2009 Organissimo — Chris' Jazz Cafe, 1421 Sansom St, Philadelphia June 16 (Tue) — 9:30 pm - 2 am — $10 [students $5]
  13. From the Nonesuch web site: http://nonesuch.com/albums/turn-out-the-st...dings-june-1980 So that pretty much confirms that it's a straight reissue of the original 1996 box.
  14. It doesn't really say anything about "new" re-mastering on the one I have, it says "Original location recording, remix and digital mastering: Malcolm Addey." No "re" in there. Which is that, Cliff--the Japanese release or the new Nonesuch release? Sorry, should have said it was the Nonesuch release. It says the exact same thing in the booklet of the original Warner release. So the Nonesuch adds nothing new.

  16. For those who have both, I assume that this new Nonesuch release is identical to the original Warner release in terms of mastering, documentation, etc? In other words, for those who have the original Warner box, there's no need to pick up this new box (other than just to get a terrific bargain from Best Buy )?
  17. Hear the original 1860 Au Clair de la Lune recording here.
  18. If you were any kinda loyal board member and friend, you'd arrange to take that week off, come up here to visit your girlfriend, and hang with us at the shows. (And if you do decide to do that, make sure you count as one of my 4 guests so's I can get my free CD--I just hope it has Wolf Biermann on it.)
  19. Cool! I'll definitely tune in. Also, keep an eye out the next couple of Sundays for a possible review of "Groovadelphia" in the Inquirer (fingers crossed).
  20. Would you be willing to trade that for a brand-new, unopened Wolf Biermann CD? He is the German Bob Dylan, after all.
  21. In anticipation of organissimo's June 16th appearance at Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia, our very own Jim Alfredson will be interviewed on WRTI (90.1 FM), Philly's jazz and classical station, on Saturday evening, June 13th, at 6:45 PM. A simultaneous webcast will be available here (click "LISTEN" under "JAZZ" in the far left column): http://www.wrti.org/
  22. Just a head's up for all Philly organissimites: In anticipation of organissimo's June 16th appearance at Chris' Jazz Cafe, our very own Jim Alfredson will be interviewed by Jeff Duperon on WRTI (90.1 FM) at 6:45 PM on Saturday, June 13th.

Glad to see you've decided to stick around! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your posts about your dad (of whose music I'm a big fan), and whatever else strikes your fancy.
