  7. The Complete Lionel Hampton Quartets and Quintets with Oscar Peterson on Verve
  8. It would be interesting to see your purchases (if any). I don't think I've managed to post anything here without at least one stupid typo. What I meant to say, of course, was: "Stopped by my favorite local CD store after a rehearsal today and was picked up by the spirit of Sun Ra and transported on golden beams of sound to the outer reaches of the universe." Or something like that.... Nice comeback.
  9. It's part of the Canadian conspiracy for world domination.
  10. Mymusic.com has this set for $31.99 US, with free shipping to the US and Canada: http://www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&...muzenbr=1071930 EDIT: Received a shipping notice 26 minutes after placing my order.
  11. Nope--the Jim Alfredson we're seeing leads a melodica trio: Completely different group.

  13. Tonight's the night, folks: ORGANISSIMO Chris' Jazz Cafe 9:30 PM Be there! Aloha! And don't forget tomorrow night: ORGANISSIMO For The Music Only New Hope, PA 8:00 PM Reservations STRONGLY advised (capacity is only 60, and reservations were fast approaching that by this past weekend).
  14. We miss you here, Rachel! (even with Joe downstairs practicing as I type this )
  15. "Groovadelphia" gets reviewed in . . . . well, Groovadelphia: http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment...?page=2&c=y
  16. I'll be there.
  17. One last reminder to catch Jim on WRTI (90.1 FM) in Philly tonight at 6:45 PM EDT. See my first post, above, for instructions on how to hear the live webcast.
  18. OK, Philly organissimo fans, it's official: a very nice, lengthy review (3 stars) of "Groovadelphia" appears in tomorrow's (Sunday) Inquirer. I'll try to post it tomorrow when it's on-line. Don't forget to listen to WRTI (90.1 FM) tonight at 6:45 PM to hear Jim Alfredson interviewed by Jeff Duperon.
  19. I saw Mabern a few years ago with Eric Alexander at Art After 5 at the Philly Art Museum (ever hear of that? ). He was very friendly after the show, and even drew a little picture for my daughter when she asked for an autograph. I guess you guys didn't discuss that you have that in common.
  20. Oh--for a minute there, I thought this thread was about these guys:
  21. Dude, I'm the Master. My services are available . . . . . for a small fee.
  22. Different time period--the Mosaic is the early-50s trio with Barney Kessel on guitar and no drummer. The box you're getting is the late '50s trio with Ed Thigpen on drums and no guitarist.
  23. Here's what you're getting (I googled "Oscar Peterson," "The Songbooks," Verve, and the UPC code from the Tower page): http://www.grigorian.com/webstore/view.php?iid=353291 5 discs--a Canadian release by Verve. Looks like a great deal!
  24. Gee, you sure you can afford that one? By the way, when should I pick you up at Philly airport for the organissimo show this coming week? I'd be there tomorrow if I could - I love youse guys! (do you all talk that way??) Just some of the natives--and only SOUTH Philly natives, at that.
