  1. I've made several panic orders in the last few days. Pared down my queue quite a bit.
  2. Incidentally, whoever wrote in the description of the new Buddy Rich Mosaic that "efore Rich, drums played a customary support role," should listen again to "Sing, Sing, Sing" and Gene Krupa's contributions in general.
  3. I know. Although it's still a great deal. I hope you're right!
  4. In my experience, if there's a K2 version available, that's usually the version they offer. But not always. You have to try to figure it out from the listing (e.g., if it's the K2 version, it will usually be labeled as "remastered"). Coincidentally, I just received two K2's from them today--"Mulligan Meets Monk" and "Soultrane". Can't beat the price for K2s! And if I were you, I'd check my queue once a day, if possible. You never know when one of those soon-to-be-unavailable warnings will appear.
  5. There are several older threads relating to Venus Records, but none of them seemed liked a good repository for recommendations of or questions about specific titles. So, here's a new, custom-made Venus thread. And here's the first inquiry: has anybody out there heard either the Richie Cole "West Side Story" or the Russell Malone, and if so, what's your opinion?
  6. They've always sent me a postage-paid return label for any defective disc. But they order the replacement immediately, and don't wait for the return. Once or twice, I've had to send them a reminder email about the return label after a month or two.
  7. So, Larry, I take it you won't be writing the notes for this set?
  8. Mosaic "Future Projects" page
  9. My favorite disc of that set.
  10. Also: 5/13 Bill Charlap Trio (Annenberg Center, Penn)
  11. The latter (discrete albums/sessions). Here's the Brookmeyer Select discography. And that's a real nice one, by the way--I just listened to it again within the past week or so.
  12. I'm interested in Alexander, and possibly some of the others you mentioned, Alan. I'd also like to hit Ortlieb's (maybe catch Mickey Roker again and Orrin Evans) and Chris' (especially the guitarists ). Sounds like Phillyissimo needs to start making some plans. And in terms of Joey D., I say we boycott all organ trios until those goldbricks from Michigan finally get their lazy asses here.
  13. Dude, this is Greater Phillyissimo (including even our worthy constituents from Jersey and Delaware, to paraphrase Bird).
  14. I'd definitely be up for some of those (actually I'd be up for many of those, but time and money will only allow some ). We should plan some more Phillyissimo outings.
  15. Absolutely. I love Jeru. But I'm not sure when I'll get it. Too many other older Mosaics on my wish list. Not to mention lots of other CD's.
  16. TM: Mulligan CJB box=Fantastic. 'Nuff said.
  17. I could make a pretty good guess, and stayed home! Me too.
  18. Prediction: at $6 a disc, you will become addicted. I don't know about others, but the standard price for a used CD around these parts is $9, and there isn't much of a viable selection in jazz. Good stuff - hope it lasts. ← Agreed. And that $5.99 per disc also translates into some terrific deals on box sets.
  19. Battle of Brandywine Battle of the Bulge Battle of the Network Stars
  20. Because sanity eventually prevailed (at least temporarily)?
  21. Damn! On that acetate I picked up at a yard sale, he's only 15.
  22. I note from Red Trumpet's site that it apparently is a Limited Liability Company, which is similar to a corporation and a separate legal entity from its owner(s). If Rick filed for bankruptcy personally, that doesn't necessarily mean that Red Trumpet has also filed for bankruptcy, but may only mean that Rick's ownership interest is frozen pending the outcome of his personal bankruptcy proceeding. In other words, Red Trumpet could still remain a viable, operating entity despite Rick's personal bankruptcy. Certainly, the fact that the web site is still up and running--an apparently still taking orders--does not help clarify this. I know Rick is a member of this Board and posted within the past couple of months. Maybe he can offer some information here about Red Trumpet's status. Better yet, some sort of explanation should be offered on the Red Trumpet site, or it should be shut down.
  23. Joe, you could practice a lot less if you'd just spend more time working out with one of these:
  24. You better register your copyright for those lyrics before John Williams snags 'em.
