Lon, whatever you do, don't send the Brookmeyer back to yourmusic.com--they're not currently stocking it because of the CP issue, and you'll only get a refund. Instead, send it to Sony's CP exchange program at Sony's expense here, and get a brand-new one without CP.

organissimo wants to play in YOUR TOWN
Ron S replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Nothing that bad (unless I just haven't realized it yet). It may have cost us a review, that's all. No biggie. FUCK 'em. You don't need 'em. I say we should show respect to all the labels. I don't think it's fair that O's future gets compromised by comments on the bulletin board. Can't there be a disclaimer where the band points out that opinions expressed on the BB don't necessarily reflect the band's views? My point is that any label or publication/website (and Jim referred to a potentially lost review, not recording contract) that doesn't already realize that, is going to be trouble sooner or later anyway. It's clear that what the band is trying to provide here is a free and open forum--within reasonable limits, of course--and any label that doesn't understand and respect that is probably one they wouldn't want to be involved with. At least that's my understanding of Jim, Joe, and Randy from their comments I've read here. -
Glad to hear that, since I also just got it from BMG (well, yourmusic.com), and it's currently sitting in my to-be-played stack.

You sing too, Sangry?? Who knew!! Certainly no one who's actually heard him.
-
So what did you buy with your quarter?
-
Am I missing something? Aren't these going to be regular retail reissues? That was my impression. But he should buy a burner anyway. So he can burn copies of everything in his collection for the rest of us?

I can attest to the fact that I have personally experienced chatting with Randy, and chatting with him for a few minutes at a time is actually tolerable.

Why don't you just make it flash rapidly back and forth between them like your avatar, and see how long you can handle THAT.

I thought he comes from the Netherlands. *please note--this is intended only as a self-deprecating joke, and not as a commentary on either Hans or the Netherlands What ever. I'm offended whatever your intent is. I may not have enough of me, but I've had enough of you. Kidding... TOO LATE! That's the last time I go to a guitar show with YOU! (Oh, I forgot--we didn't go. )

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
Ron S replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
How come my box came with only EIGHT discs??? -
REAL men go with BLUE. (Sorry, but it had to be said.)

Dude, that's not a very well-rounded meal. You gotta at least try to fit one of these in there, somewhere: Happy Thanksgiving to all, and thanks especially to our Three Musketeers for makin' such great music (even if not in Philly--yet) and for keepin' this Board goin'.

That's a very existential question... That's just what I ask myself every day! Maybe we should open a separate Existentialist chat room. Problem is, once you went in, there'd be no exit.

I know this has been brought to the attention of Jim and Greg before, but Alan Lankin's Jazzmatazz site has a page devoted to upcoming Philly jazz concerts and shows. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, there is a list of several venues that regularly present jazz: Jazzmatazz Philly Jazz Page (Note that this list is not entirely complete--e.g., it doesn't include the soon-to-be-opened Ron's Jazz Club, which is awaiting funding from certain well-heeled Michigan investors). -

Cape May is a WONDERFUL town--beautiful historic Victorian resort on the southern end of the New Jersey coast. It's quite charming, and just ITCHIN' to get some funk and greaze goin' on--and it's only an hour and a half from Philly! Great recommendation, Chris. -
If you lived in New Jersey, you, too, would spend all of your time in a virtual world.
-
But in the end, isn't each of us really only in his/her own individual room by him/herself? (Jim, please open a Philosophy forum so I can start an Existentialism thread.)

Jim, where's that photo from in your profile?

If you're going for some sort of Baywatch Alumni theme, I'd kinda prefer you use something along the lines of this: -
Yep, just checked--they've all disappeared from the "new arrivals" section. It's like it never happened. 'Cept for that copy of "Silver's Blue" sitting on my desk waiting to be mailed to the Sony exchange program.
-
It is indeed the copy protection issue. I received notices today that each of the new copy protected Sony discs in my queue will not be available on the queue ship date, and that I should buy them now if I want them. I didn't. I would be very surprised if they didn't return at a future date in "clean" form.

So where's "Cannonball in Euorpe"? Hopefully not far behind.

I got tired of my Miles avatar (makes me think of Vince Wilburn ), so I temporarily replaced it with Helène Grimaud http://www.helenegrimaud.com/ She's a stunner. Can she play? My son who listens to classical music only (he also plays the piano) is a big fan of her. And probably in love with her! I don't think she is a bad pianist but I have grown tired of hearing variations on her interest in wolves I saw her perform one of the Beethoven piano concertos (I can't remember which one now ) with the Philadelphia Orchestra two summers ago at its summer outdoor performance venue. That was during the first half of the concert, and during intermission she came out into the audience and found an empty seat near where we were sitting, and stayed there to listen to the orchestra play Beethoven's Fifth Symphony during the second half of the concert. I've never seen a classical soloist--especially of her fame--do that before! Before the second half began, my then-nine-year-old daughter went over to her, and she was very friendly and gave my daughter an autograph.
