  1. Why the caps? Very unpleasant to read.
  2. What a childish thing to do. I wonder if it ever occurred to Mr Ricci that this harms the artists and that surely can't be the intention of a jazz site.
  3. I'm with Lon on this. I got some very unpleasant messages from AAJ at the time and I have no wish to be part of that site again.
  4. Fortunately I am not interested in Paul McCartney's music - on the contrary - so I can happily ignore those threads, as well as most rock-related threads, including the many, many Beatles topics
  5. It is mainly a rock-oriented board, there seem to be very few real jazz lovers. I get the impression over and over again that quite a few members only purchase jazz CDs and vinyl because they were mastered by Hoffman and/or Kevin Gray or because Hoffman recommended them, not because they really like the music. Pre-mid-1950s and post-mid-1960s jazz is usually ignored. Pity.
  6. That would have been a big mistake, as Hutton never liked first pressings
  7. Don't know what's it like these days, but when I was banned many years ago it was. Still have no idea why they booted me.
  8. Didn't Kevin Gray master this 45RPM LP-set? To my ears his masterings generally sound excellent.
  9. Hm, looks like I'm still banned over there
  10. I was just banned over at the Steve Hoffman site for asking this question, so discouraging. Wow, I can't even ask a question about one of their records, I guess it's strictly a worship site. Your membership profile is still up at the Hoffman board, so are you sure they banned you? They did delete your thread about the Coltrane record, though; it doesn't appear when you click on "postings" in your profile. Positive, when I try to log in I get a big red "You have been banned!" warning. Not a very welcoming site, I wasn't even critical of Hoffman or Gray. I actually hold them both in high regard, that's why I posed the question! I see. Didn't they tell you why exactly you were banned? I think you have a right to know. Maybe it's just a misunderstanding.

  12. The review was written by Robert Hutton, a one-time member of both this board and the Hoffman board. He was booted from the latter and hasn't posted here in a long time. He has always been extremely critical of masterings done by people like Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray. At one time I got the impression that it was personal.
  13. Correct, as the track listing in post #32 shows.
  14. How the decimal mark is used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_mark#Hindu.E2.80.93Arabic_numeral_system
  15. Not true. See the link in the original post. Yep, you're right, it is that set, I got it wrong. I don't think it has Clifford Brown's complete sessions, though, just the EmArcy dates.
  16. I think Mike was making fun of all these reissues. There's no such set on Amazon Italia.
  17. Sorry to hear this.
  18. Thanks Allen, very informative.
  19. Who on earth controls those?! gregmo As far as I know American Pathé Records became part of ARC, which is now owned by Sony. European Pathé was owned by EMI, so I guess it's now part of Universal; I don't think it was sold to Warner like EMI Classics, Virgin Classics and Parlophone.
  20. OK, thanks. If I remember correctly you mentioned in another thread some time ago that they didn't use noise reduction or at least no digital noise reduction, but something else to reduce the noise, or am I wrong?
  21. Thanks. I knew Jim Neumann founded the label, but didn't know he still owns it.
  22. Which CD reissue?
