Movin' The Complete Verve Recordings of Wes Montgomery
J.A.W. replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
Yes, so did I until I bought the Stan Getz and found that the wrong version of "Flamingo" had been included. Made me wonder about their quality control processes. I also felt that their "fix" of making an mp3 download available as a replacement was wholly inadequate; they should have replaced the faulty CD. Agreed. They give me the impression they're not really interested in the customer. -

Blank black Mosaic type Boxes available?
J.A.W. replied to jazzkrow's topic in Offering and Looking For...
The Shorty Rogers set does indeed come in 4 regular single-CD jewel cases. -
Head Man got them all, so he can probably confirm it.
-
See post #66 above; the tapes are owned by Ace, so the only reason not to use them would be something like too much deterioration.
-
I think you'll have a better chance of getting rid of those discs by offering them in the "Offering & Looking For" forum
-
As indicated earlier on this thread, Dootone is now owned by Ace, so it's not so amazing they have the tapes...

Times are tough (OK, cliché, but still...), that might be why they're doing it. They're obviously trying to move some stock. On their site they're also offering free shipping within the United States and reduced shipping anywhere else on orders over $50 until August 31.

As I said I have problems with label boxes (and also composer boxes, for the same reasons), but, contrary to what I said on another thread months ago, I do like artist boxes because they give a good picture of their work for a label, all neatly put together in a box. They also save some shelf space compared to the individual CDs
-
The problems I have with boxes like those are their incoherence - the only thing the discs in the boxes have in common is the record label - and the varying quality of the performances.

Me neither, even though I like much of Gardiner's work. Religious works are not my cup of tea.

I can't deny that Jochum was unique in Bruckner, but what bothers me about his Bruckner is his "stop and go" treatment, his excessive rubato. Some (many?) people seem to like it, but I find it annoying. As to the 4th, my favourite version is Karl Böhm's interpretation with the Vienna Philharmonic (Decca). And the Bohm seems square and lifeless to me. I bought the 2 lp version when it was first issued and felt the same then. Well, it's clear that you (and Larry) on the one hand and I on the other are worlds apart where appreciation of classical music interpretations is concerned. Interesting. Otto Klemperer's interpretation of the 4th with the Philharmonia Orchestra is another version I like, especially the way he emphasizes the architecture/structure of the symphony.

Blank black Mosaic type Boxes available?

I don't think I can help you. I do have a few black boxes, but no plastic trays for 4 single CDs; the ones I have are for 2 single CDs each. Apart from that, shipping would indeed be prohibitive: 18 euros (lowest rate, total weight should not exceed 2 kilograms) or about $25. -
Many of the Ace remasters I bought over the last few years were mastered quite loud, some were too loud to my ears. They also had boosted highs, making them sound a tad harsh. They were fatiguing. How do these CDs fare?

I have a few generic black Mosaic boxes and I might have a few plastic trays to hold the CDs, but I'm not sure about the trays and I have no idea for how many CDs. Shipping cost would probably be prohibitive, though. -
CD Japan: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/ Their prices are OK and their service is excellent.

As far as I know the first Eastern Rebellion album was the one with George Coleman, Cedar Walton, Sam Jones and Billy Higgins; the tracks on the album were "Bolivia", "Naima", "5/4 Thing", "Bittersweet" and "Mode for Joe". Bob Berg came later.

Very sad news. I saw him several times in concert, with Clifford Jordan, Sam Jones and Billy Higgins. They're all gone now.

When Bernard Haitink was chief conductor of the Concertgebouw Orchestra (1957-1988) he was the Bruckner champion in the Netherlands. I attended several Concertgebouw concerts in the 1980s, with him conducting Bruckner. Wonderful experiences in a great concert hall. My favourite Bruckner symphonies are Nos.7-9, followed by 4-6.

Most of the Bethlehem CDs I have were released by Toshiba (TOCJ) in the late 1990s/early 2000s. The sound is pretty harsh, at least to my ears. Maybe this new series has better sound, or perhaps I should try the earlier Rhino reissues.
