  1. Well, I pulled the trigger on a pair of mxl603s today. shock mounts and case, two cables and a stereo mount included for around the price you gave me Jim. I'm stoked. I've got an ibook running ableton live. All I need now is a firewire mixer and I'm in business.
  2. I really like the sound Jim. You did a great job recording. Do you think it would be wise to set the mics up ortf for the vibes as well? Most of the set-ups I've seen have the mics mounted above the keyboard.
  3. You won't be disappointed!
  4. The JOS footage from that flick has been listed on the youtube thread... There is also some early Gary Burton playing behind Getz.
  5. That is a kick-ass cover.
  6. East Coasting is definitely a 'board favorite'!
  7. up. I was listening to the Bud Powell BN recordings the other night featuring Fats Navarro and Sonny Rollins. Every time I heard that trumpet I would flip!!! I've been rifling through my collection since then looking for more Fats. I am going to look into this 2CD set. Dameron is another huge hole in my collection as well. Any other recommedations?
  8. I was listening to Flight to Jordan on Tuesday... sad news.
  9. I immediately thought of the Carolina Hurricanes, and I'm not even a hock y fan! Its not that though... It looks so familiar. I feel like I've seen this logo before. Logos are really tough. Overall, I think you did a really good job with the composition of the layout. The tabs across the top are a nice touch.
  10. hmm... I wonder if that is a complete schedule. I thought they were playing Charlottesville as well... we'll see. Thanks Aggie.
  11. I just heard that version of "Frankie and Albert" by Taj Mahal with the Pointer Sisters on the radio this afternoon. The DJ introduced it by totally divebombing Lohan's version in PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION. I've never heard her sing, but I thought that was hilarious. The Taj version is fantastic, btw.
  12. Kind of Blue was the first Miles date, but I owned that Charlie Parker In A Soulful Mood comp before that. See, compilations do work!
  13. I hear he is touring with Bill Frisell this Fall. Anyone have a schedule?
  14. Those people DO have cultural merit; they reflect contemporary culture. MG Yep. They also have 'sex tapes'.
  15. Susanne Vega? Cousin, who went on to become a folk singer, of Vincent Vega? I caught a few scenes from Pulp Fiction the other day. I didn't remember that exchange at Jack Rabbit Slim's.
  16. That's the sad part...
  17. Sad. But the writing on that page is ruthless! Some pretty funny stuff if you keep scrolling through the other 'celebs'.
  18. If you are talking about the cymbals, they seem a little hot on the TOCJ. The ride is a constant, but the hi-hat sounds great! The rest of the kit does to, for that matter. I have not heard the RVG, so I can't compare, but the mid and low seem fairly balanced in proportion. I can't tell you if it will be an improvement...
  19. I think this recording has great potential. I am looking forward to hearing it.
  20. Last year's (or the year before's?) domestic reissue was remastered by Ron McMaster. There are some improvements over the early remastered by Malcomlm Addey, and some areas where the earlier cd is better. I think I hear a bit of distortion on the new one. Thanks Lon. I knew it had been re-issued recently. I just assumed it was part of the RVG series... I suppose I'll hold on to my copy.
  21. I just wasn't going to go there...
  22. I love listening to this album. Oddly enough, I met up with a friend I hadn't seen in 5 years just a few weeks ago. She had Money Jungle playing when I got there! I didn't get the RVG version last year. How is it? Since it is a favorite, I wouldn't mind upgrading if the sound is that much better.
  23. I heard another Gillian Welch disc this weekend that I hadn't heard before. Her first album, Revival, from 1996, produced by T Bone Burnett. I really love she and David's approach to the music.
  24. fasstrack, try setting it up as a game... challenge the people on the street to name the tune and win a teddy bear. Of course that is a joke, but people seem to pay attention when there is something (of material value) in it for them. Let's see... how can we turn solo saxophone into three card monte/find the lady?
  25. Glad to hear you found a good gig!
