  1. One of my favorites from recent years that immediately came to mind: William Parker .:. Painter's Spring (Daniel Carter, William Parker, Hamid Drake) Give it a listen, even if you have made decisions against Parker/Drake.
  2. I don't know if this has already been posted or not... For the Charles Gayle fans in the house, and I know there are many rabid fans here.
  3. "sporting wood" That is just a fantastic phrase that seems to have gone out of favor in recent years. Thanks for bringing this back into memory.
  4. Don't you just look at that picture and HEAR MUSIC? Damn.
  5. Right, NOAA is a first stop. Intellicast is actually a trusted resource as well. Very customizable reports.
  6. Here's a link on the Canon technology. I thought Toshiba was going to be marketing this, but didn't want to say anything until I found more info. SED Next Generation Flat Screen Technology My source, who used to teach lighting at SCAD, was able to spend a few hours with one of these sets and mentioned that all of the cons above were non-existent. His advice: if you are in the market for a large flat panel television, wait.
  7. Good Weather For Air Strikes Good Weather Insurance Agency (Talk about a rip-off.) Sometimes Good Weather Follows Bad People (an absolute favorite, Califone. if you are still on the fence, a friend of mine has seeded a show on etree. click below.) Don't worry. The band allows taping. This is a matrix recording, and a very nice recording at that. Unfortunately, they are touring sans Ben Massarella. Good show nonetheless. Califone Knoxville, TN 11 15 06 I digress.
  8. I was told last week by a legit source that Canon (Canon?) is going to be introducing a technology within the next 8 months that will make both obsolete. I have not done any research on this, but... does this sound realistic?
  9. I see a little Ashley Simpson jig in her step on that Living Proof clip. Intentional? .:.Cary (pronounced Carry, Shawn's my wife's name(seriously))
  10. I like a lot of Cat Power too, chew. For some reason, my brother is on the fence. I think it has more to do with her success-to-talent ratio than anything though. I think she's fine. The Greatest is a nice album.
  11. Yep. Amazing how much he accomplished in that short time and how he changed music. For a Detroiter, that's an amazing statement. Soul developed between Billy Ward & the Dominoes' "Have mercy baby" in 1952 (Clyde McPhatter lead) and The Falcons' "I found a love" in 1962 (Wilson Pickett lead, plus Eddie Floyd, Sir Mack Rice and one of the 4 Tops' brother - the backing band later became the Ohio Players). Nothing that Otis, O V Wright, Carr or Aretha did after that took Soul further into church than "I found a love". (Soul is the classic instance of the innovators not being as good as some of those who followed.) MG PS the other members of the Falcons were Joe Stubbs (Eli's brother) and Ben Night. And the band in those days was known as "The Ohio Untouchables") "I Found A Love"... man, I love The Falcons. I literally listen to that song on a weekly basis. That vocal sure grabs my attention!
  12. You deserve a commission from the loft... I ended up buying the two Dickerson albums that I didn't have, on top of the video.
  13. y'all are into mashups? i think the most popular mashup of the year is girl talk 'nightripper'. combining top 40 music from the past 25 years, not so top 40 music from the past 25 years (neutral milk hotel even!), with mostly crunk mc's of the past 5 years. instant party. while you're on this kick, i'd suggest you check it out. he moves fast and samples come and go before you can get them.
  14. Not sure if I would recommend this one as a starter -- it's pretty short and only manages to reach LP lengthy through the inclusion of incomplete takes. Guy not to mention the drumming.
  15. ha! that's awesome. did you know that he did an mtv cribs back when?! hilarious. the mystique was gone. memphis murder men, but i digress.
  16. What innovations are you referring to? What is the 'something' that they pushed further? up. specifically.
  17. aquariusrecords.org by the way...
  18. What innovations are you referring to? What is the 'something' that they pushed further?
  19. Mark Linkous and Danger Mouse are going to record a full-length collab after working together on the latest 'Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of the Mountain'.
  20. I could never remember my combination. The lockers were easy to pop.
  21. I like the MBV sound much, MUCH more than I do "Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To". Much of Spacemen 3 is boring to me, as is Spiritualized, though I remember the "Ladies And Gentlemen..." having a couple of nice tracks on it. I've always though Mascis was fantastic, even with the less interesting music he has recorded in recent years. Every once in a while, it happens. He's a motherfucker of a guitar player in my world. Glad to see the jaded are giving him some credit. The answer to the question is: no, loveless is not the most overrated album of all time. in fact, i doubt most people here or there have ever even heard of it.
  22. Well, do you need a new pair of jeans? If so, I'm sure it'll be worth it. Especially when you get that first compliment. "Nice dungarees, teach!"
  23. Chuck, I sent you a PM.
