  1. Meanwhile, the latest Radio 3 feed includes a SOLO set from David Murray.
  2. So CDs are expected to last 25-75 years? No such problem with vinyl. As for the other digital stuff, fuggedit. Family photos is one issue - it needs backing up. As for music, it seems the notion of permament collection (in particular, a collection held on a permanent medium) is a diminishing one, and that collections will rise and fall like ancient civilizations, only in a shorter time frame. Ahem.
  3. Now if you could just reattach all the old BNBB posts... (what did YOU do in the war daddy)
  4. I just received this and it is the "deluxe box" version. A good deal at 30 euros shipped. Nice one! I thought it was the deluxe vesion but I didn't want to say so in case I was wrong...
  5. Heck, two YEARS ago, you guys were writing how it'd be the next one to expire. If this keeps up, Mosiac's gonna have to move it from 'Last Chance' to 'Running Low'. Oh we know our onions round here. Next thing they'll be printing another 10,000...
  6. hmv.co.jp Can be seen here: better to order from amazon or early records.
  7. Are these Japanese issues or something else? I was aware of a Japanese Globe Unity issue, not the others. Ehh... checked around and answered my own question. This is the second Japo Globe Unity to make it to Japanese CD. Maybe Intergalactic Blow will follow in three years or so...
  8. Exploitative and in bad taste. What does it mean to make a commercial aesthetic object out of a massacre? An attempt to legitimate the movie genre as such by finding a content that seems to ground the two modes movie makers peddle most assiduously: pathos and destruction. Selling people the pathos of their own destruction? Is this the movie they are showing at the end of Gravity's Rainbow? Follow the bouncing ball...
  9. Hmm - thanks, I'll take a look...
  10. Very well, thank you! I only used the trial version which worked very well, so I am going to buy it - it is quite cheap. I am trying to work out the best resolution to use. Any tips on that?
  11. How about RVG's Dialogue (Bobby Hutcherson)? Sounds like a car crash.
  12. Back on a complete work-through of the JJJ here myself. In case no-one has made the point, a set not to be missed...
  13. A concert by this group forms the main part of Jazz on 3 this week - it won't be there much longer as the program changes weekly, on Fridays... There's a nice interview with Hutcherson and Redman. Line up: Joshua Redman - tenor saxophone Renee Rosnes - piano Eric Harland - drums Matt Penman - bass Andre Hayward - trombone Nicholas Payton - trumpet Miguel Zenon - alto saxophone & flute Bobby Hutcherson - vibraphone & marimba
  14. Jim Thanks for getting the board back up so quickly and sorry for your problems. Nightmare!
  15. Thanks, - noted!
  16. In fact I've got three line outs - 500mV (for the amp), 1.6 V and 5 V. Will that cover it do you think? Also a couple of tape outs.
  17. Thanks Claude! I have got a free standing pre-amp (a Quad 44). I imagine that has line-out there somewhere. That may mean I only need a cable! How exciting... why didn't I think of this before? Now I can flood the world with illegal mp3s of obscure LPs...
  18. Since I already have a turntable and a soundcard, what do I need to connect one to the other and record LPs? Thanks for any help...!
  19. Studio. It contains more music, and more music you don't already have. The VV contains less music and less variety, since it is all from one set of dates. In fact the VV can be done quite well from the "Best Of VV" CD which exists, although habitual completists will frown on me for saying so (sorry guys!).
  20. Here is the MDT version, for reference - ending today. Shipping issues are different with MDT, and jazz is not included.
  21. Good call, Claude. My DFD Schubert Lieder arrived just now - £27 including shipping, even less than the current price. This is the same Universal sale I mentioned when it began. Europadisc closed their version of this sale yesterday, MDT close today, so my guess is that amazon will not be too far behind. I'd certainly say anyone on the fence over Basie (at £26.97) should JUMP... Edited to add that the Fischer Dieskau Schubert is the compact edition WITH complete texts and translations into English, plus a mix of translations and paraphrases in French. So you are sorted for life with this set, even if all you want to begin with are the three major cycles.
  22. Complete Verve Billie Holiday at £33.97 here, also the Verve Studio Masters at £24.97. Also worth checking Ella and Louis, and Ella's Gershwin and Ellington Songbooks, and lower than usual prices on Coltrane Complete VV and Complete Impulse. As well as the outright bargains on Basie and Farlow Mosaics (£26.97) I mentioned elsewhere. These prices include 17.5% sales tax which is not payable for buyers outside EU, and postage is per item not per disk so works out well on box sets (I *think*). Those prices will end VERY SOON. Edit: It's all here on this page: bargain boxes
  23. On the subject of cheap Universal Mosaics, I see that Basie and Farlow are currently at £26.97 on amazon.co.uk I believe this offer is set to end SOON Edited to point out that price quoted is UK Pounds Sterling.
  24. That seems to just about cover it...! Thank you!
