  1. I'd say that Live at Historic Slugs still holds up and would be good for those wanting to sample. As John says, this style can pale a little bit...
  2. I agree John. I do like to support Mole, but the price is surprisingly high.
  3. The latest mail order catalog from Mole Jazz lists in very small print and at astronomical prices a series of 24 bit remasters from Black Lion. These includeall three volumes of Monk's The London Collection. There are 36 titles in total including Donald Byrd/Groovin for Nat, Albert Ayler/Witches and Devils, Cecil Taylor/ Silent Tongues and many other thrills. Are these remasters which have been issued in the US, or new remasters commissioned by DA Music (=Black Lion parent company)? Has anyone heard these new remasters? Mole are charging full price (15.99 UKP). Can they be obtained mid price? Can anyone point to a full online list of these titles? At the moment, only Mole seem to have them.
  4. Chuck! Chuck! Where's Chuck?
  5. PS I took another look at the Spanish catalog. On the image of the Holiday CD the words 'Definitive Records' can easily be discerned. The catalog number is not a Nagel Heyer number. So we can conclude that NH are spotless and that Definitive are once again in question.
  6. Some of these titles were never released by Blue Note US (as far as I know). Perhaps different titles come from different sources?
  7. I posted a hastily typed list of selected Time Life Blue Note highlights in this thread. They are very blue indeed and reported to be taken from the TOCJ masters. BTW, before we get into blanket dissing of all European labels, Nagel Heyer are a respected and legitimate label. They currently do not list the Holiday on their website and I am not convinced that the attribution to Nagel Heyer in the catalog is correct. So yes, be suspicious of this set... but please don't blame the dedicated promoters of new trad over at Nagel Heyer!
  8. 9. It's them. They list a Time Life Blue Note series with which I am not familiar. These titles sell for 5.95 euros and seem to be mostly tinted blue by way of giving them a series feel - otherwise (!) the covers are original. No details are given as to mastering, but there are a few titles people here might snap up including True Blue and Destination Out. I don't have the brochure with me but if no one else beats me to it I will list some of the highlights later on today. Other features in the catalog include a promotion of jazz in Sweden - where, to judge by the number of titles (and pace Ken Burns), jazz seems to have originated.
  10. Well??
  11. So far 100% prefer Johnny Griffin...
  12. PS Hey I checked and I remembered right! All the more reason to VOTE IN MY POLL!!
  13. Ok lets face it I couldn't remember what was in the other polls - but I just wanted to see how the technology worked. Vote in my poll!
  14. uhhh uhh uhh - but really we are all lsitening to the JRVG of Basra so it shouldn't count!!!
  15. PS its ok to list Basra I suppose (and topical) BUT surely Basra is the greatest J(apan only)RVG - people shouldn't be voting for it as a conn. It's not fair!!
  16. You guys are so democratic!! But does it really need a POLL to discover that TRUE BLUE is the most outstanding of all the cons??!!??
  17. Some put it at the head of the list... others don't mention it... I have got nearly all the conns since the series started... and I have no doubt that True Blue is my favorite and the one I play the most. If I pick a second it will be Minor Move... but TRUE BLUE! Hard to find now, I suppose, and I doubt it will see light of day as an RVG. If you haven't heard this one I suggest you make a point of picking it up!
  18. Don't get me started...
  19. That's Krall taken care of... now, who is going to marry Summer? Don't pretend you don't know who she is! According to Sony's advertisement inside, uhhh, this admittedly OPERA program which I have in my hand, there is the face, the web address, and the claim that 'Summer is the Norah Jones of 2003'. And Norah is the winter of our discontent so matters have evidently come full circle. Hmm, wonder who the Summer of 2004 will be... Marry them while they're hot.
  20. Mobley's Far Away Lands is not well respected in some quarters. I like it, and I like Byrd's appearance on it. His solos are sweet sounding (if not absolutely secure) and melodically well shaped.
  21. I haven't bought BN or Mosaic product since the Board closed. It is just a gut feeling about handing over money to people who were so rude as to delete our conversations. Maybe that will change, but at the moment I have lost interest.
  22. Read all about it...
  23. Ah HAH! Thanks Ed. A man of my years and experince and I had no idea the French had their own Groove series. The ones we see in the UK are called Rare Groove and are the same as the US releases. I'll have to check these out further.
  24. These are still going in an HMV store near you! (well, maybe not so near if you live in Arkansas)
  25. Uh... so like I asked in the other thread, are any of these Rare Grooves? ( I deleted the titles Ed listed. These remaining titles are listed for UK release this month...)
