  1. While we're on the subject of Grooves-Inc (Swiss based online dealer) - don't worry, I've had no problems with them -> very legit Any Woody Shaw fans out there looking for the 32 Jazz double "Two More Pieces Of The Puzzle" (Iron Men & Live In Berlin 76) - great double (has Braxton, Blythe, Abrams, Slide Hampton) Grooves has it for 16.89Euros - have just received a copy in my latest order (not the boxed sets yet) - thought most of the 32 Jazz material is OOP? It's definitely a 32 Jazz release (not a boot) - actually Grooves has quite a range of Shaw CD's That's a pretty good buy (have a look at the prices on Amazon - all of the Woody Shaw 32 Jazz material is a bit pricey now) especially with no shipping charge Also, in the same order I've received an obscure late 60's Impulse release -> Impressions of New York by the Rolf & Joachim Kuhn Quartet. It's been released by MPS (6.59 Euros) Has this been released on CD previously? Not listened to it yet - any comments on this?
  2. PM sent on Shakill's & Dodecaband
  3. placed order on March 24
  4. My Haden & Threadgill sets have shipped from Grooves-inc
  5. David Murray/WSQ would be high on my list even though I've got 90% already and don't forget Steve Lacy, Cecil Taylor, Mal Waldron, Anthony Braxton & Julius Hemphill - all big favourites of mine
  6. It gets better have just ordered through Grooves-Inc (www.grooves-inc.com/index.php) - have been using them for the past 8 months without a hitch They are selling the sets for 23.89 euros & free shipping (for any order above 20 euros) Got both Haden & Threadgill boxes for 47.78 euros (approx 64.58 US$) Most of the online dealers have the sets being made available as from March 26
  7. Have ordered three times from CAM Jazz over the past year - no shipping problems (to Australia) & well packaged Actually, there were no shipping charges until recently
  8. a bit off the topic but I recently snapped a mosaic disc in two !!! (resulting in a momentary a cardiac "flutter") Had just received it (Ellington Sidemen) - the discs from the set were all extremely difficult to remove - anyone else have problems with that box Mosaic replaced it promptly First time I've ever broken a disc trying to remove it from its case
  9. The box sets have just gone up for sale on the Black Saint site (www.camoriginalsoundtracks.com/site/index.php?site=&path=home) They are selling for 27.96 euros or 38.83US $'s (all sets the same price) - what a great deal!! (just over $5.50 for each Threadgill disc)
  10. Scott (email communication from last month) confirmed that they were working on a LT Mosaic Select
  11. Hiroshi Tanno is based in Fukuoka City, Japan. Here's his website; his e-mail address is hiroshi@earlyrecords.com. Hiroshi's prices are the Japanese list prices. He takes PayPal and his overseas shipping rates are very reasonable. He can supply all jazz LPs and CDs that are currently available in Japan, and sometimes also OOP items. His service is excellent. many thanks
  12. I'm looking for Billy Harper's Capra Black on CD The Strata East CD release appears to be long gone - went to the Strata East site-> have downloads there but it's all Charles Tolliver. Dusty Groove has a "Strata East/Billy Harper Fan Club" version for a reasonable price (approx $15) that is currently OOS/OOP? - anyone know about this one - is it a CD-R? If you go to the Billy Harper site & buy from there (is it the same CD as Dusty Groove's?) it's going to cost me $35 to land here in Australia. For that price I may as well try & search out a Japanese release. While I'm on the subject of Japanese CD's, could anyone give me contact details regarding Hiroshi (there's a continuously ongoing thread re Japanese releases) - is he a US based CD dealer or does he deal from Japan I've been purchasing my Japanese CD's via CD Japan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/index.html) - they're are selling the most recent crop of BN's for just under US$12 - have just ordered the Jutta Hipp 10" CD & the 2 Hickory House CD's plus the Hank Mobley Quartet (10")
  13. I have to agree This is one of the few occasions that a Mosaic set has been eclipsed by a "competitor" (and an impudent Spanish label at that !) The Nocturne booklet is a real labour of love - it even contains a photo of Jordi Pujol with Shorty Rogers.
  14. Thanks again, everyone, for sorting this out Can now readjust my PJ discography database
  15. If you email CAM (simone@camscores.com) they will send you a list of what CD's are now only available as CDR's as more CD's go out OOS (& will probably not repress them) I presume the list will get bigger
  16. Hope this hasn't already been covered but can anyone comment on the UK Avid (Jazz) label Have been buying some of their twofers (contain 4 LP's) - Anita O'Day, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims - great value with excellent sound quality; good prices via UK Amazon Looking forward to the upcoming Johnny Hodges release (4 early 50's Clef/Norgran LP's) Mostly 50's LP's that would be difficult to obtain otherwise (unless you have the Mosaic boxes). How legitimate are these releases (are they needle drops or do they have access to the tapes?) - is the situation similar to the Proper sets ?? (just picked up the 4CD Kenton Era box - fantastic sound quality & packed with 40's kenton material - similar to the OOP Mosaic set but with less tracks)
  17. PM sent re Albert Ayler, “The First Recording”, vol. 2 (DIW) [trio]

  20. Thanks for all the help to summarise, it appears that There is only one version of "Bones for Zoot" (5:40 - recorded March 59 & released on Jazz Immortal - PJ 3, ST 20139 & possibly PJ 1214 - waiting on this one) & is an edited version (or possibly alternate take) of "Brushes" (4:21 - released on PJ 20 - Zoot Sims Choice). An edited version appears more likely knowing Richard Bock's history of "tweaking" the PJ tape stash over the years. Sorry but I switched the timings - Bones for Zoot should be 4:21 & Brushes 5:40
  21. According to the Lord data you posted (where exactly did you get it?) The Source I am using is the Lord Discography, Version 8.0 (I have the disc) Maybe somebody else with a more reliable discographical source can clear this up completely. My "Main Man" when it comes to sorting out Pacific Jazz problems is James Harrod - he's in the process of writing a text on the label (including discography). Hopefully he'll see this thread
  22. I've copied extracts from the Lord Discography, stating that there are two versions of Bones For Zoot, one from 54 with Annie Ross vocal (sextet) and another from 59 (Sims/Freeman Quintet). The 54 "version" was made at the end of a Clifford Brown Session sans CB (?). The discography also claims that the two versions were on similar LP's (PJ 3, ST 20139). I strongly suspect that there is only one version (but which one?). I used to own the Clifford Brown LP ST 20139 but don't remember which version was on that LP) & I've never owned the US version of AR's A Gassser (have a TOCJ version without the extra tracks) - what version is on the CD?? Is there actually a vocal version? 23. Have just obtained a few CD's from Peter Ind's site/label (UK based). For those unaware Peter was a core member of the Tristano/Marsh/Konitz axis. He has been releasing material (mostly taped by himself, some live, some studio) on his Wave label since the 60's. A large amount of it has now been transferred to CD - sound quality is excellent. If you're a Warne Marsh fan there are a number of CD's in the catalogue worth picking up - Release Record, Send Tape (Wave CD 06), More Jazz From The East Village (Wave CD 10), London Concert with Lee Konitz (Wave CD 16) The site has just commenced paypal transactions, now making it much easier for CD purchases Peter replies personally & very promptly to any inquiries My link the above site is preferable to the peterindWavejazz site
  24. I know this is a long shot but does anyone out there have decent spare copies of the first & second discs from the Giuffre Mosaic box. Recently picked up the set (actually on this forum) in lovely condition but sans Discs 1 & 2 (have CDR's of these). Would be nice to complete the set with the original discs. Have tried Mosaic without luck. Happy to trade (have a decent list) or pay $$ Please PM me if interested
  25. There's another session on DIME with Johnny Griffin : Thanks ubu - Somehow, I missed that one.. Have just downloaded this session (Cologne Sept 68) - sound quality is excellent; it appears to be from two different concerts
