  5. MORE! Damn, I was trying not to spend money, but there are some in here I definitely need to grab before they go out of print. Ike Quebec 45 sessions, Fats Navarro and Tadd Dameron come to mind immediately, what else should one not pass up?! BLUE NOTE RELEASES - CATALOG DELETIONS A large number of superb titles from the Blue Note labels will go out of print by the end of this year. This is a new list that does not duplicate the list that we sent out two weeks ago. So you don't miss out on albums that you have been intending to purchase, here is a list of the casualties of 2008. We don't know the exact quantities left on these items, so it's best to order sooner rather than later. To ease the squeeze, we have put a number of these titles on sale. 6. Tina Brooks Herbie Nichols Anthony Braxton Definitely a tough task though.
  7. Judging by the label, not an original. I believe the first had a circular Delmark logo. That is what I have. Chuck has been over this before, though, and I forgot his answer... Yeah, not surprised. One hell of a record though of course!! Glad to have it on clean vinyl. Not a first pressing. Give praise to your god for this. The early pressings were crap. Thanks Chuck. That's nice to know!
  8. Great. His work on fascism and sexuality is essential. I actually had a college professor that had a close romantic relationship with Mosse when Mosse was his professor/advisor many years ago.
  9. I'm probably going to cave and get the Goodman despite the alternate tracks... The Goodwin is good. I guess that's part of my problem, I don't find O'Day's voice to be sexy. Just saw Beyonce doing Etta James in the theater. . . now that was sexy! And made me cry. I enjoyed the Anita O'Day set. It's not my typical stuff, but it worked for me.
  10. Thanks Dan, I appreciate it. My roomate actually told me last night that they are looking into spaces to rent for the band, so that should also help.
  11. Needy issues got overwhelming, and perhaps it was evident in the tone of my first post on this topic. I did actually break up with her this weekend. Don't worry, no comment on the thread made me do it, it was a long time coming. I have good headphones, and an ipod, but when I'm home, I just want to listen to a record through speakers, you know? I'll try the headphones more though when the roomie has his band around to meet on weeknights. Aren't there some women on this board that would be pretty put off at some of these assumptions? It is obviously unfair to assume that an entire sex does not appreciate jazz. Although my mom does say that Jazz "is a man thing."
  12. I have a roomate in a band who used to practice but now mostly just meets with his bandmates a few nights a week in our living room. They don't rent a space because they don't have percussion. If he isn't doing that, he's sitting there on the couch with his computer watching crappy TV or listening to the radio. He just lost his job, so it's seemingly impossible for me to find time alone to listen to my records, and the turntable is in the living room. I also have a girlfriend that does not enjoy jazz and always wants "to talk." She gets offended if I have a record spinning and my eyes focused on a book if she is in the general area. Occasionally I can play vocal, swing, or some soul jazz, but any tune with harmonic dissonance is considered disruptive. This leaves me yearning for Bebop, Hard Bop, and especially Free Jazz, which I need to listen to alone to really appreciate in the first place. Anybody ever have similar problems? Anyone develop solutions to such problems?
  13. www.jazzstudiesonline.org This is an amazing collaborative new resource even with specific courses' syllabuses to keep me reading forever. Check out George E. Lewis and the robots!
  14. I won a couple OOP Mosaic sets from them on ebay a while back--Woody Shaw and Curtis Fuller--each around or less than $100.
  15. Judging by the label, not an original. I believe the first had a circular Delmark logo. That is what I have. Chuck has been over this before, though, and I forgot his answer... Yeah, not surprised. One hell of a record though of course!! Glad to have it on clean vinyl.
  16. Horace Silver, The Stylings of Silver (BN Blue Label) Thanks Dan!
  17. Anthony Braxton--For Alto on Delmark DS 420/421 [former radio sample (original?)]
  18. Monaural Pressing, Blue Note Records (Liberty BLP 4250. VAN GELDER)
  19. Is that the one on 20th near Irving? Yup. I'll have to remember that one. I didn't know about it. I may be coming into SF Friday or Saturday. I'll make an effort to stop in and check it out. Don't get too excited because the hours are extremely erratic, and it is just one guy's operation, but I think technically it is supposed to be 1pm to 6pm Tues.-Sat.
