  1. Bird, who knows what the music would have been at least 20 more years he would have had to record. What more music he would have composed. He left his mark and will be remember as the greatest musician even 100 years from now.
  2. All of his Tijuana albums. He loved them so much, but they dont get as much attention as his down home jazz albums on Columbia, and of course, CANDID.
  3. I love the OJB recordings! So interesting. Rest in peace, Pete's son.
  4. No I havent ever got payed for a gig yet. I mostly play with my friend, (30 years old) who is my ticket to all the jazz guys around here, he has a lot of friends, and brings me to jam. I'll never forget my first time jamming with these guys. WE started with All Blues then after the bassist soloed, (I play drums too) I remember he shouted out to the guitarist, "lets give it to the kid!" It was awesome soloing in 3/4 for my first solo. At the end, they all said to my friend "man he blows you away," laughing. It's funny I guess my friend didnt really have any brush training, so he sat me down, and I showed him all my brush strokes. He has also brought me to a lot of people's houses, some 80 years old! I was sitting at the drums and this 70 year old guy, came in and started playing Samba De Orpheous, and i swung with him. It was great when he shaked my hand and told me I was good. And my teachers most encouraging quote was, "You swing!" That was great for me. And in some I played at some show, some guy told my dad I play like Chico Hamilton. I hope to do this for a living. I hope to jam on guitar and bass soon. My favorite bassist is Charlie Mingus, for solo albums. But I love to see Paul Chambers, as a sideman. Gene Wright and Percy Heath are also favorites.
  5. That's what I'm trying to say.
  6. whatever you wanna call it. It seems funny how grown ups make fun of kids, when THEY WERE KIDS ONCE. and how kids make fun of grown ups when, THEY WILL BE ONE SOMEDAY. I dont get the world.
  7. They're not my elders. They are just other people on the internet.
  8. I stay away from solo albums. Jazz is supposed to be conversations with different people. I prefer groups.
  9. he lied. I'm done, you three have your immature conversation.

    and in school..
  11. He was Evans's favorite drummer. He always gives Philly Joe those cool breaks, like in "walkin up."
  12. "I used to play acoustic, but in Florida it got so hot, one day my up right just exploded. So there, I decided to play electric. I carved out my frets and started playing the fretless bass," Jaco Pastorious.
  13. lol. Not technically live, but never-the-less, it was live! wait a minute.....
  14. I was really referring to Blue Note and remasters. But I only mentioned one remaster. Talkin Bout comes from Tina Brooks's Waiting Game.
  15. The only buses that come around here, only go to schools. Which I take to and from everyday. I hardly ever get driven anywhere.
  16. If it's an RVG, you might not have any choice... That happens a lot on his remasters. Tina Brooks's Waiting Game, "Talkin About", Philly Joe's rivet cymbol just kills the whole song. Not because of him, but the way it was recorded, or remastered.
  17. I got Shelly At The Blackhawk, Vol 5. Nice music, but I was waiting for him to solo.
  18. Excellent guitar playing by Gary Moore on this record Jazz Kat. You play guitar right? He's a guy worth checking out if you've not heard him. Yep I play guitar. Thin Lizzy will be something I check out real later. I am being kept busy just trying to collect the whole Blue Note cataloge.
  19. Allright, now this other thing called parents.
  20. I first heard of Evans on Kind Of Blue, Went out and got Evans's Finest Hour, whcih I didnt really like that much. I didnt feel they choose good enough material for that compilation. However, about a month later I came across Portrait Of Jazz, and Waltz For Debby. I got it, and I loved Portrait Of Jazz soo much, when I put Waltz for Debby on, it didnt touch me at all. I just love Portrait Of Jazz alot! But, when I heard Explorations, it was very different and the tempos and time sigs changed alot through the songs, and now that one's my favorite. I am despirately searching for Eddie Costa's Guys And Dolls Like Vibes album, w/ Evans on piano.
  21. Oh The Shape of Jazz To Come. Every one of those melodies is just superb. Ornette, we love you!!!
  22. I dig Bill Evans also however a poll like this is difficult to respond to in view of the dissemination of all the Riverside material first into 2-fer LPs back in the '70s which I purchased at the time, then into the wonderful 12 disc boxed set which I've owned and listened to for quite some time now. As a result I no longer can look at a poll such as yours and distinguish what favorite cuts belong to which of the original Riverside issues The exception of course is the SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE VANGUARD session. But what is the title of the equally excellent companion album to that - is it PORTRAIT IN JAZZ? I really don't remember. So I took the easy way out and voted for SAatV, as it certainly is up there in terms of Bill Evans material I listen to often. More problematical perhaps are the slew of albums he made for Verve. Choosing strictly among those would be interesting in view of the greater variety of contexts found there, e.g., solo, overdubbing, orchestra accompaniment, duets as well as trios, etc. I guess the easy way would be to select out of the ones you know. Which you obviously did.

I think read about those on the hardbop homepage.
  24. You've got to get out more! I can think of a few places in the NYC area. At Sam Ash, bowed instruments are in the sheet music section with the horns. It's called a car, which I dont have.
