I e-mailed that prayer to a bunch of friends, one of whom came up with this response: Bud Light presents Real Men of Genius. Today, Bud Light salutes you, Mr. Poet in a Bar Room Stupor. . . . . Mr. Poet in a Bar Room Stupor. While others spend their time doing important things and thinking lofty thoughts, you and you alone focus upon raising the state of alcoholic inebriation to that of religious revelation.........

Board closing thoughts
Big Al replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, it looks like the board (or at the very least, the community) isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I suppose that's good for the community; it's not so good for me, since I now have to go back to relying on personal discipline and self-will to keep myself from spending so much time here. Which, as you can see, still doesn't work. -
Right on the nail there, my friend.

Herbie Mann's FLAUTISTA was my introduction to his groovy percussion. I like at the end when Herbie's introducing the band and introduces "the next president of Cuba, Patato!" RIP

I read in the paper the other day that the Rangers are talking about bringing Gagne back from Boston and making him the closer. Jeeezus, didn't these idiots watch ANY baseball last year, including their own team? If I was Aki, I'd be looking for another team pronto!

I even bought the Verve Master Takes box, and will be getting the 5-CD "Studio Chronicle" soon. So there!

I am trying SO hard not to burst out laughing right now.....

The only respectable thing to do would be to tell me that not only am I wrong, but that I'm ALSO full of shit!!! Well, that's a difference in MOs, I guess. I just assume that everybody (myself included) is full of shit, so that's gonna be a given at any point in time. But to tell somebody they're wrong, hey, that's personal! Hey, intervention ain't always easy. Someone has to take the first step of slappin' some sense into someone who needs it! -
I couldn't resist replying to this, so I replied here, so as not to derail the thread.

In the Org shut-down thread, JSngry wrote this: The only respectable thing to do would be to tell me that not only am I wrong, but that I'm ALSO full of shit!!! I have since corrected that generally grievous error (didja catch that, Star Wars fans?) by purchasing the Verve Master Takes box and (eventually) the 5-disc box called (I think) "A Studio Chronicle." The only reason I haven't purchased it yet is because the public library still has four copies of it. Once those eventually get stolen (as happens to all the good music in the Arlington library system), then I'll likely pick it up. This is not to say that I get Bird's music any more now than I did then, but I'm enjoying it a helluva lot more! -
I have a co-worker like this. I better watch my step! My collective..... nah, better not. TMI. I was gonna say, how come I'm not any thinner? So THAT'S why women yell at men as soon as they get home! I'll have to remember this next time I get yelled at! I'll let you know how well that works once I'm out of the hospital and they've sewed it back on. I resemble that remark. But usually my eyes are bigger than my stomach. Back to headbanging I guess. Maybe there's something to be said about quality over quantity?

I endorse that statement absolutely. MG I'll third that sentiment!

Oh I want to, but I realize that wouldn't be fair to the community at large and would be rather dickish of me, I think. I wholeheartedly DISagree. Your family needs you infinitely more than we need you, and I would like to think that everyone here understands that. After reading your heartfelt post, I could've easily thought the same about me. There have been times when Nathan has called me to look at something and I've put him off because I'm in the middle of posting something here. How sick is that? Believe me, you're making the right decision. If someone else runs this place, so be it; but you, my friend, need to take care of YOU, your family (granted I know we're all one big happy dysfunctional family feud, but I mean Allison, Zora, and the new baby), and the band. You're doing the right thing here, my man.

These, as well as the Best Of Newport 2-CD set are in jewel cases, unlike the ones you find in the brick-n-mortars, which are in digipaks.

Happy Hanukkah indeed!!! I always remember a conversation I read between Groucho Marx and Charlie Chaplin; Chaplin apparently once said to Groucho, "I'm not Jewish, but I wish I was."

Also, I appreciate y'all contributing posts, but it's me that's trying to hit 5000 posts! I guess this makes it 4950. Only 50 more to go! Dr. Funkenstein, here I come! -

I love that picture from the bandstand. It's fun to think that we're looking out from the same perspective as Stanley Turrentine, Grant Green, Horace Parlan, Monk, Christian, etc etc. Great photos and great post! -

REVISED 12/11/07 The Board's not closing down, but I still reached 5000 posts! Goody for me! Below is the original post. ********************** So this thread will be my personal jazz blog to help me reach the golden 5-grand before January 1. Feel free to post anything, random thoughts, best wishes, worst witches, ANYTHING! Party like it's 2007! I'm gonna talk about anything that interests me, and I invite you to do the same (here's things that interest me: jazz and whatever you're listening to or thinking about right this minute). And above all, and I'm dead serious about this, if you don't have anything nice/good/kind to say, then stay the hell outta this thread! Call it my own little "Enchanted" thread: where the real world and the animated world collide, but I'm staying in the animated world. More fun that way, a lot less sadness and hurt.

As someone who posted in that thread, and probably contributing to the overall down mood lately, I would first and foremost like to apologize for doing so. Having said that, I will miss the people, but I won't miss the "board" itself. I have neither the self-will nor discipline to keep myself away from here. As a result, I end up spending a lot of time here when I should be doing other things. Like right now at work, for instance. Most importantly, I want to thank Jim for putting up with us. I don't know about Jim, but I feel like I've become a lot more cynical, negative, skeptical, and resigned about everything, all the things I don't want to be. You'd never know that from my last few posts, though. I don't know if Jim has been affected in the same way by running this board, but I have to think it's finally taken its toll, and for that I feel partly responsible and apologize greatly for that. It was fun while it lasted, that's for sure. acrearick@hotmail.com is my e-mail address for anyone interested.
