Does anyone else's RVG of Flight to Jordan have a misprint on the CD? Mine has a title of A.T.'s Delight by Duke Jordan. I'll try and post a picture later. This is a sweet session, BTW. Glad it's available again, since I've never seen it or heard it before.

I think it's one of the Duke's loveliest albums, and one of Clooney's finest moments. The track "Blue Rose" is worth the price of admission alone, and the liner notes from the Legacy CD do a good job of detailing the behind-the-scenes work that went on to put this album together.

Who all is on it? When was it recorded/released? Can't find it at jazzdisco.org. Sorry it took me awhile to resond, but I was in Chicago for a few days. The cd came out in 1992 and was recorded in LA in 10/65. The full title of the disk is "Gil Fuller and the Monterey Jazz Festival Orchestra featuring Dizzy Gillespie," but Blue Note must've thought that putting Dizzy's name first and "Blue Note" on the spine would be more eye catching and sell more cds. Here's the band: Gill Fuller arrang-cond Dizzy Gillespie/Freddie Hill/Harry Eddison/Melvin Moore/John Audino-trumpets Lester Robinson/Francis Fitzpatrick/Jim Amlotte-Trombones Herman Lebow/Sam Cassino/David Duke/Alan Robinson-french horns Buddy Collette/Gabe Baltazar/Bill Green/Carrington Visor Jr/Jack Nimitz-reeds Dennis Budimir-guitar Phil Moore III-piano Jimmy Bond-bass Earl Palmer-drums Tunes are: 1. Man from Monterey 2.Angel City 3Love Theme from the Sandpiper 4.Groovin' High 5. Be's That Way 6.Big Sur 7. Moontide 8.Things Are Here Hope that helps edit to say I forgot to mention that this is a Pacific Jazz release. Cool! That looks like it'll be a good one!

Byrd/Adams paid for on PayPal. You're gonna love it. Money well spent, IMO!

MASTERPIECES is gone. Added AT'S DELIGHT. The $40 package price is still good with the addition of the RVG and the sale of the Ellington. -
Thanks for Muse Records and 32Jazz, a big part of my jazz education. RIP. Way too young.

"After the Vanguard: the Return of Bill Evans"
Big Al replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
Just listened to it this morning. Probably one of the best shows ever, David. I forgot about "Ev'rything I Love." That song reminds me of a cool, sunny autumn day with the leaves falling in the late afternoon. Great selection of songs, too; glad to see a song from Tadd Dameron's MAGIC TOUCH, another favorite album! That Dave Pike song sounded like Trane's "Impressions." -

Up. Cleared a lot of stuff at the used-CD store, but the OJC's remain and a couple Ellingtons were added. -
Looking forward to the Turrentine. The last of the Turrentine/Parlan recordings to be reissued, correct? Isn’t everything else either available as a stand-alone disc or as part of the Turrentine Mosaic or the Parlan Mosaic? As mentioned earlier, I think highly of the Silver session. I probably won’t upgrade, but it’s worth it for anyone who hasn’t heard the session. More adventurous than Silver’s normal kick-ass swingin’ sessions. I’ve never been able to decide if I ever wanted Soothsayer or not. I’m not a big fan of James Spaulding, and his presence on Shorter’s Schizophrenia (whattya wanna bet THAT one gets RVG’d soon?) is grating and almost too distracting. May have to get Shades of Redd again. Can’t remember why I ever got rid of it in the first place. Will definitely have to check out Louis Smith! Glad that BN stayed true to Cuscuna’s word and is getting the rest of that Pearson arranged Turrentine stuff out! Plus, it’ll be cool to get BOTH Louis Smith albums at the same time. The Hutcherson & Farmer dates looks very interesting. I’ve never heard of either one, but the big-band lineups look promising!

"After the Vanguard: the Return of Bill Evans"
Big Al replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
Oh, I can't wait for this show to hit the archive. Moon Beams and How My Heart Sings are my all-time favorite Evans albums; I like them more than the VV albums! I'm glad you chose "Very Early," David; that song is very heartbreaking. -
Talk about two teams with identical records but going in completely opposite directions. The Packers are red hot. The Cowboys annual December swoon is in full gear (I know they won the previous two games prior to today, but they were difficult wins and they were hardly playing at their best in those games). Today was the proverbial opening of the floodgates. Only now it seems like the problem is on the OFFENSIVE side. Roy Williams should be suspended for the rest of the season for that horse-collar penatly. Hey shitferbrains: THAT RULE WAS PUT ON THE BOOKS BECAUSE OF YOU, YA DUMBFUCK! 11-2, bigdealsowhat. You heard it here first, and you actually heard it last week: the Cowboys playoff futility continues this year with yet another first-round exit.

Y'all better quit tellin' us what you bought. I don't wanna have to place a second order. Hell, I haven't even gotten the shrink-wrap off some of the CDs from the last order! :yikes:

I am staring and staring and staring at Bright Moments's beautiful lady image. It's much easier on the eyes than Matthew's image. ***************** Happadab'lldooya, JSngry! I'll spin some Bird in your honor today and pretend to get it!

I often wished that instead of doing a Rod McKuen album that he'd done a Leonard Cohen album. Imagine Frank doing "Story of Isaac." Also, I wish Frank had done a version of "If You Go Away" by Jacques Brel... I think a Frank Sings Leonard Cohen album would have been sensational! Too bad we can't raise the dead... Sure they can. Tupac, Notorious BIG... hell, even Nat King Cole!!! ************* If Sinatra had only done SONGS FOR YOUNG LOVERS/SWING EASY, SONGS FOR SWINGING LOVERS, and ONLY THE LONELY, that would be enough to solidify him as a legend in my book. Also dig his work with the Dorsey Orchestra. But the real jewel in the rough is his SINATRA/JOBIM album. Happy birthday, Chairman! Hopefully, he and Phil Hartman are leading another round of "The Sinatra Group" up there!

I watched one episode of The Office. I can't watch it anymore. I am Michael Scott. And that's not a good thing, BTW. -

Now if that piece of glass had contained traces of lead, THEN you might've gotten the free case of yogurt.

What an album! Album of the year, AFAIC. Very wistful and pastoral; it's like a Sonic Youth album without the amplifiers and distortion. Plus, Moore has a very melodic voice, IMHO. If you're a Sonic Youth fan, this is a nice addition to the canon. (Note to clem: yes, I know you think that there is better examples of this stuff out there, that Thurston ain't nearly the writer he allegedly used to be, etc etc etc. Big deal. I like this, it's music to my ears, and that's good enough for me.) There.
