  1. That seems to be my memory of that disc as well.
  2. Martin covers for Bud Powell records often seem to allude to Powell's mental state, with all its potential for split or dual behavior. The original cover to Moods is fairly disturbing in this light(bulb). Martin seems to have a taste for the dispossessed ... Did DSM do the cover for Bud's JAZZ GIANT? The one with the man staring out at the sea?
  3. Not on mine nor on Al's... I don't think ... but Webster is correct! It was on Bright Moments's (Evan's) BFT #35. If I'd had this disc way back when I did my BFT, I woulda definitely put it on MY BFT! In any event, here is Jim's original comment from Evan's BFT: And I still disagree with him! Sorry I didn't get to play, Vint. Been so busy that even thinking about listening to a BFT is exhausting!
  4. You mean this might not be a coincidence?
  5. Alright, here's another question about a problem that is getting extremely frustrating: I copy the LP to my hard drive, fix it up, then save it to a CD. I'm listening to the CD and I'm hearing skips. Not skips from the vinyl; skips like a piece of data didn't import properly. I'm thinking I may just need to defrag my hard drive, but has anyone else had this happen? Some LPs I've had to re-do three times now!
  6. That alone is why I list my CDs here first.
  7. Allmusic hasn't forgotten. Seriously.
  8. That was just SICK!!!! Like Jim said, the shot of a lifetime there!
  9. Thanks!!!
  10. I'm sorry, but I've heard from many sources that Jones, great player though he was, was just ----ing nuts and often a pain in the ass to work with. I thought all drummers were like that.
  11. Well, those LPRs only had a limited run to begin with. I don't have SWEETS in front of me, but each LPR indicated how long each one was going to be in print. March '08, so it was supposed to be around another year. This is especially strange considering that many of these have been avaialble well past their "expiration date". Hmmm.... interesting. I forgot about that, but you're right.
  12. Dude, that's the kind of smile that's as much of a warning as it is anything... That's alright. As another infamous Texan once said, "Bring it on!"
  13. That link just took me to my eBay. What's your eBay user name?
  14. Well, those LPRs only had a limited run to begin with. I don't have SWEETS in front of me, but each LPR indicated how long each one was going to be in print.
  15. You know, you can't "learn" to be this much of a badass. You either are are you aren't. Jo Jones was. There was a lengthy interview with him in Modern Drummer about 25 years ago that still boggles my mind. Pure Truth. The man was a freakin' force of nature, simple as that. "Music" was just the vehicle. That, and the cat was so freakin' HAPPY!!! Look at him when plays; his face just radiates JOY!
  16. Aw HECK YEAH!!!!
  17. What other Sweets Verve albums are there that aren't in print?
  18. The Swinger and Mr. Swing was a Verve Elite. WalMart actually carries this????
  19. More often than not, that's all I'm looking for.
  20. Been listening to the ESSENTIAL collection in anticipation of this upgrade, and I think I'm gonna spring for the box. This is because I already had been enjoying the early tracks and wanted to hear those albums; of course, STAND and RIOT I'd been waiting on for years. But then there's this album called FRESH. Man, I've been wearing out the digitals on the CD listening to the tracks from that album on ESSENTIAL. I said it before: it's like listening to a Prince album, or rather the kind of album Prince wishes he could make. Are the rest of the tracks on FRESH as funky and tight as those that are on ESSENTIAL? If You Want Me To Stay indeed!!!!
  21. That actually ties in to another reason not to place early bids but rather wait to snipe at the very end. Let's say for instance that you're on some rock board and know that fellow board member 'Tommy' has been dying to get a rare copy of a Monkees CD...and suddenly one appears....and soon afterwards you see that 'Tommy' has placed a bid. Well, you're pissed at 'Tommy' because he insulted your mother and also beat you out on 10 other auctions over the years, so you start to screw with him (he doesn't know your eBay handle) and start placing bids. Well, given the fact that he's been foaming at the mouth about this rare cd for 2 years you just know that, up to a point, he's gonna keep coming back.....so you decide to place a few more bids and up the ante...but not too high......and suddenly just back off. The auction finally ends two days later and 'Tommy' ends up paying $78 for the disc...but had you not 'intervened', he might have had it for $40? He telegraphed his interest by placing an early bid and you took the opportunity to mess with him a little. He should have just popped in with a few seconds to go and avoided it. That was you???? YOU BASTARD!!!!
  22. so what reissue have come then, exept this one? JB This thread is almost two years old. Is SWEETS even still in print anymore?
  23. All I know is the Rangers ballpark is now called the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, now that Ameriquest doesn't want to pay to have their worthless name pasted on the stadium. When was the last time something like THAT happened? Where a corporate sponsor removed their name, only to have the more-beloved name return? If nothing else happens this season, if the Rangers have yet another mediocre season marred by pitching woes, overrated defense, and silent bats, for this reason and this reason ONLY, this will be the best season in YEARS for this Rangers fan!
  24. Probably. I even remember telling myself to just bid $5.00 with 20 seconds left. Lesson learned.
