  1. The Cowboys suck, plain and simple. They've been falling apart all month, and the loss to the Lions was the cherry on top of this dungheap. What scares me is that there are worse teams out there than the Cows, but how many of them had the high expectations the Boys had? I'm still a fan of Romo, but it's obvious he still has some growing to do. Things oughta be interesting around here once Seattle walks all over them next weekend.
  2. I never liked this album, thought it was overblown and waaaay too long. Side three is probably the best side, but for me, that still ain't much. Who By Numbers covered basically the same ground in much more concise and less pretentious terms. Give me Tommy any day of the week, story and music.
  3. Oh. I thought this was a bop box. Have I lost the plot? What box are we talking about? I NEED something with ALL the early Ammons/Stitt material all neatly together. MG Yeah, seeing Jo Jones name on a bebop box does seem a little strange, but lemme tellya, he MORE than holds his own!
  4. I picked up the box a couple of weeks ago, but Christmas music pre-empted my listening of it. I'll probably have more to add later, but I'm really digging the medium-sized groups, especially the ones with Gene Ammons. Having three takes of "Blues Up and Down" with the great Jo Jones on drums is just a little slice of heaven!
  5. I'm listening to it right now, and I can't hear any similarities, neither in rhythm nor structure. But I COMPLETELY agree about how "Hank's Other Soul" brings to mind "It Ain't Necessarily So." In fact, I hadn't really noticed until you mentioned it. Good call!
  6. Nah, that's just the vehicle for the real argument, which is that they each think that the other one is an asshole. Or maybe the real argument is which white guy is closer to the "black experience" than the other white guy. -_-
  7. Meanwhile, GREY'S ANATOMY (as blatant a SCRUBS ripoff as the next ABC ER dramedy, can't remember the name, but the only difference between it and SCRUBS is merely the name and the cast) continues to top the ratings on a regular basis. No justice, I'm tellin' ya!
  8. Really, all that's missing is Christiern to come in here and tell us what the black experience is truly all about, seeing as he's the only one who has managed to be both white AND black simultaneously. FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised if he's linked to this thread from AAJ, much in the same way he linked to that JC thread earlier this year.
  9. SCRUBS is my favorite TV show and has been for the last five years. But you're absolutely right; you'd think they were planning on this being the final season. It does seem like it's lost its edge. Introduction of kids is usually a bad thing anyway; here, the possibilities for disaster are multiplied thousands times over. Although I have to admit that the Cox kid is so darn CUTE!
  10. A-frickin'-men!!! Nothing like white people arguing over who was the greatest black person.
  11. Man, that 70's stuff is the BADDEST James Brown EVER!!!!
  12. I think it just hit me..... Damn! And right after the sinus bug that Lon also had. Damn!!!!
  13. Have only done one, and here it is!
  14. "Can I scream, Bobby?" "One time!" "Can I scream, Bobby?" "Go ahead!" "HEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAYYYYYYYYEHAYYYAAAYEAHYEAHYEAH!!!! Gotta love it!
  15. Yes they are. Unlike the Cowboys waaaaaay-overrated defense, which is SERIOUSLY hurting without the presence of Greg Ellis.
  16. Aw, HELL yeah!!! Listening to some of those wonderful series of collections put out in the Mercury Chronological Chronicles, like "Foundations of Funk 1964-69," "Funk Power 1970," "Make it Funky 1971-1975," and the J.B.'s compilation. Gonna be a FUNKY day today!
  17. That is one HELL of a collection! I'd be listening to it right now if I wasn't listening to the angry sports talk-shows roasting the Cowboys right now!
  18. I got both volumes of Animaniacs DVDs for Christmas, and while I'm thrilled about this, looking at both volumes, I see one glaring omission: WOODSTOCK SLAPPY!!! That one is one of the penultimate episodes! Was there problems with some of the artists parodied that prevented this from being released? I've done some searching and I can't find anything to explain why this one was left off. Any of y'all know?
  19. Now good thru Christmas eve! Now good thru New Year's DAY!
  20. Best present EVER: my wife bought me a brick! Not just any brick, mind you: this brick will have my name and my son's name on it, and will be placed on the walkway of the new Arlington Public Library that is opening up the street from us. I've been using the APL system for as long as I can remember, and for her to do this was thoughtful above and beyond the norm!!! Also got the Trane box, an Animaniacs DVD, the Match Game DVD, the new Philip Yancey book, $70 worth of Half Price Books gift cards, the new Vince Gill CD, a Borders gift card, a Barnes & Noble gift card, a new toaster. Very thankful for it all!
  21. Thanks! I'm glad I could help contribute to your enjoyment of the season!
  22. I just about choked on my milk when I read this! This is very sad news.
  23. Same here.
  24. Another favorite is Tadd Dameron's THE MAGIC TOUCH. Absolutely stunning arrangin, IMO, especially on "On a Misty Night."
