When Organissimo recordings make it to the frontpage of the NYT Or the Op-Ed page.
-
Chris posted these NYT op-eds as a public service to members who did not have full access to those editorials! Great, where can I upload my Organissimo recordings as a public service for the people who dont have full acces to them? Excellent EXCELLENT point!

In fact, all five of the most recent RVGs are at BMG.

It's gonna be interesting to hear folks opinions of Romo now that he's finally had a lousy game. If they don't drop Owens now after tonight's pitiful performance, I guess they never will. Too bad. He seems to be the only thing standing between the Boys and a genuine run for the Super Bowl.

Happy Birthday, Ghost of Miles
Big Al replied to White Lightning's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
A super-busy weekend prevented me from wishing you a happy birthday in time, but I wanted to echo BeBop's words here. They come from this heart, too, my friend! -
Damn! Another guilty pleasure, right up there with that Waitresses song and that McCartney song. I oughta just make a compilation of Christmas guilty pleasures and call it "Xmas Music from Hell!" Jazz Kat, I love Christmas; that's part of why I started this thread: to vent about songs that absolutely RUIN my (and anyone else's) Christmas mood!

Pity he rarely indulged it over the years. Honestly, if it wasn't for the two red flags that I mentioned in the first post, I'da just guessed he was still doing nothing but posting Dowd/Krugman/Friedman articles in the politics forum.

Big Al, this is sound advice. Though the wealth of false starts, breakdowns, and alternate takes can sometimes be tedious, this is an excellent document of the master. I got this one when I still lived in Florida many years ago, and I still consider it one of the "must have" boxes in my collection. Where do you stand on folks like Eric Dolphy and Ornette? I believe Red is talking about the 3-CD set of just the master takes, not the 8-CD "complete" sessions. Either way, it is sound advice indeed. My feelings on Ornette are about the same as Bird's: I appreciate and respect him for what he accomplished, but that doesn't make me wanna listen to him all that much. Dolphy, OTOH, is too far out there for me to comprehend, much less grasp. I've tried over the years, and have come to the conclusion that there is music out there that I actually ENJOY listening to, so why keep torturing myself?

So you're also familiar with the goings on at JC? What is your handle there? "Monte Smith."

2005 Holiday Tunes for you!

Great choice, but it's all good! -
Eww!!! I haven't heard it, but still.... EWW!!!
-
Pssttt, comrade... Charlie Parker's Complete Dial and Savoy Masters. At BMG... make haste, my boy!!! I had it on my Christmas wishlist (oops, sorry Comrade: Xmas wishlist, please don't tell the Kremlin), but then remembered it was blatant materialistic commercialism, and fed the list to my pet goat. Does this mean you've returned to the Politics forum? If so, I may have to reconsider my voluntary banishment, as I miss the days of yore when we would hunker down in the barracks, listening to NPR on the transistor radio and argue over who was right and who was left.

"The Arrival of Victor Feldman" on Night Lights
Big Al replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
You could play that whole album and it would still be a fantastic show. I know I'll be listening! -
Lord have mercy YES!!! If I have to hear Amy Grant sing that song ONE MORE TIME..... Amy Grant did that one? Oh lord help us all... I do like Brenda Lee's version though. Just not 150 times a day. Same label, same era, roughly - Bobby Helms "Jingle Bell Rock". Now that's one that gives me the willies... Well, I'll count Brenda Lee's version as one I can go the rest of my life without hearing.
-
Heh heh heh.... I completely understand where you're coming from.... but don't let that rocket ship to the vortex leave WITHOUT ME!!!!
-
Anytime, my friend! Anytime! Lord knows there's a boatload of great music that I simply don't get. Any guidance (accompanied by the usual beers, provided by me of course) is always appreciated! Anyway, I hope I didn't come across too judgemental of Neville by that one song alone; I certainly cannot judge him as I've never heard any of his music (oh Lord here it comes...... )
-
Lord have mercy YES!!! If I have to hear Amy Grant sing that song ONE MORE TIME..... But ya gotta love the organissimo version, though! I know I do! (where'z that brown-nosed smilie?)
-
I see. Well, talking about music these days normally bores me to tears to be perfectly honest. But I'll scan to see if I can find a thread that peaks my interest. Come on, now: somewhere around here you can find a group intervention of good-hearted souls trying to help me dig Charlie Parker. Or giving me the Bird, so to speak.

2005 Holiday Tunes for you!
Big Al replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
I was listening to "Funky Drummer Boy" last night, and while Randy does a kick-ass-funky drummin' job, that track is one helluva showcase for the fancy fretwork of Joe Gloss! Man, you wuz burnin' up the speakers, my friend! -
I think I heard one of his songs at the bank today. I'd never heard it before, but LAWD it was horrible. You just described the "singing" perfectly, so I'm assuming it was Neville. BLEAH!!!!
-
Yet more reasons I'm glad I don't have access to the Politics board.

HA! How could I forget the supermarket's favorite Christmas song? This really is a terrible "song," and I'm stretching here by referring to it as such. But....... I've always had a soft spot for it, so.....
-
Whew! Anyhoo.... the CD is now spoken for, and PM's have been responded to.
-
I mean, it was one thing when Rainy Day posted here and he didn't respond. Now we've got a Crouch thread, and again, no response. Did something happen in the political forum that drove him away? I mean, his signature's gone, his avatar's gone.... the last time he did something like this was over at JC. At least here, he hasn't deleted his posts. Just wonderin'....
-
Amazingly, no one ever responded to me! I guess everyone already has a copy!
