  1. I see. Well, talking about music these days normally bores me to tears to be perfectly honest. But I'll scan to see if I can find a thread that peaks my interest. Come on, now: somewhere around here you can find a group intervention of good-hearted souls trying to help me dig Charlie Parker. Or giving me the Bird, so to speak.
  2. I was listening to "Funky Drummer Boy" last night, and while Randy does a kick-ass-funky drummin' job, that track is one helluva showcase for the fancy fretwork of Joe Gloss! Man, you wuz burnin' up the speakers, my friend!
  3. I think I heard one of his songs at the bank today. I'd never heard it before, but LAWD it was horrible. You just described the "singing" perfectly, so I'm assuming it was Neville. BLEAH!!!!
  4. Yet more reasons I'm glad I don't have access to the Politics board.
  5. HA! How could I forget the supermarket's favorite Christmas song? This really is a terrible "song," and I'm stretching here by referring to it as such. But....... I've always had a soft spot for it, so.....
  6. Whew! Anyhoo.... the CD is now spoken for, and PM's have been responded to.
  7. I mean, it was one thing when Rainy Day posted here and he didn't respond. Now we've got a Crouch thread, and again, no response. Did something happen in the political forum that drove him away? I mean, his signature's gone, his avatar's gone.... the last time he did something like this was over at JC. At least here, he hasn't deleted his posts. Just wonderin'....
  8. Amazingly, no one ever responded to me! I guess everyone already has a copy!
  9. The first volume???? Jeezus, how long-winded is this gonna be? He may set his own bar even higher..... or lower, depending on your opinion of him.
  10. Now, I don't want anyone saying "All of them;" that's no fun. I mean the ones that make you wanna punch a hole in the radio when you accidentally pull it up on the dial. Or those that make you run screaming from whatever shop you're in. Some of mine: "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt (heard it 1,000 times too many) "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" by John Lennon (ESPECIALLY when Yoko starts warbling) Any Christmas song destroyed by Kenny G, because.... well, just because. But really because hearing him play just makes me ANGRY! Anything by Mannheim Steamroller (their music has all the subtlety of said steamroller) Fire away!
  11. Is that the one where the front cover is nothing but an American flag?
  12. Oh, I know it! The Arlington public library used to have the vinyl AND the lyric sheet. Wish I'd known when they were selling off their old vinyl a few years back.
  13. I dunno. All it means is I'm gonna be looking for a vinyl copy of RIOT next time I'm at Half-Price Books!
  14. That was a lowe blow! Nooooooooo..........
  15. Saw this at the Hoffman board: I'll believe it when I see it, though. Haven't we been promised something like this before? And is it really such a good idea to clean up "Riot?" I always thought part of its charm was its awful sound. With any luck, Sony'll leave this one virtually untouched but give us a nice booklet with scads of details to go with it.
  16. Having looked at the Dizzy discography on the Mosaic page, I might just have to add that one to my Christmas wishlist! Looks like it would be a good one. My vote is still for the Buddy set!
  17. However you wish! I consider Hawk's version a Christmas tune, so why not Trane's version?
  18. Happy to help! If I think of any others, I'll post 'em!
  19. Watching him and Vivian Vance on I LOVE LUCY is like watching my in-laws. They always keep me in stitches!
  20. 21. I was digging out my copy of U2's Unforgettable Fire EP, and the title song brought back memories of Christmas 1985. Plus the song has a very wintry feel to it. Also, for one reason or another, Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation brings back memories of Christmas 1989, and that frigid space between Christmas and New Years when nothing really happens. There's guitar bits that sound like the kind of thing the Edge was doing at the same time. XTC's Drums and Wires, Black Sea, and Mummer also bring back memories of Christmas 1989, mainly because I bought all three of these at an import shop in Schaumburg, IL while visiting Gramma that Christmas. Jack Wilson's Easterly Winds came out around Christmastime as a Conn a few years ago; I listened to that so much, "Frank's Tune" is as much a Christmas carol for me as Johnny Smith's "Moonlight in Vermont!" Any y'all know what I'm talking about here? Or have music to share?
  22. Blue Note sez so!
  23. Holy cow, I just saw that Night Dancing album at Half-Price Books the other day. Trust me when I say that Sangrey looks NOTHING like the guy in THAT picture. Thank God!
  24. It's on my Christmas wishlist; hopefully I'll get it and can post some thoughts. The clips on the Mosaic site, however, are spellbinding!
  25. If we ran the poll at JC, nobody would bother to answer.
