  1. Attic inspector..... (One of many MANY inside jokes between me & Jim) Golf instructor, pest control man, sandwich maker, (comedy) writer... At least he's not a bastbird!
  2. Racism, thy username is rainyday.

  4. That reminds me: has anyone seen Albertson lately?
  5. Wow, ELP ripping someone off..... how surprising....
  6. Funny you mention Cannonball, because he was one of the first artists I got into when I first started listening to jazz. I think you made an excellent point about the subsequent players; as I've been listening to Bird lately, that is precisely the feeling I've been encountering: how do I get excited about this when I've heard others do it, not as well, but close? Besides, it doesn't help that I'm not that big a fan of the alto sax to begin with (McLean notwithstanding!).
  7. You got THAT right. Today's paper compares Romo to Aikman and Staubach, saying that Aikman once threw five TD passes, but that he needed OT to get that fifth one; Staubach never threw five in one game. Time will tell, but this kid's been solid since the first minute.
  8. Maybe you're on to something: never been that big a fan of bebop in general, now that you mention it. No Dizzy in my collection, f'rinstance. Believe me, I "get" why folks dig Parker and completely understand what the fuss is about. Maybe I should lock myself in a room with some Bird!
  9. It certainly does in my case. Over the last few days, I've been willing myself to listen to some Parker, and as a result, I'm just not feelin' it. I tell ya, I've been waiting a LOOOOOOONG time to finally feel Parker's music, willing myself ain't doing the trick, and yet I still haven't ever BEEN in the mood for Parker. Now how sad is THAT?
  10. Damn! I just paid for a Wii with eBay before seeing this thread!
  11. Heavens no; that honor goes to Boston's first album.
  12. OR... Oh, THAT bird!!! Actually, that kid in the last picture looks a lot like me when I was that age. And running from a bird.
  13. Me thinks that this self proclaimed best kicker of all time is about to file a change of address card. Me hopes!
  14. A redneck dentist's office.
  15. Hey, I shaved your back; when are you gonna do mine?
  16. I like him for the simple fact that Jerry Jones didn't think the Cowboys had a chance if Romo was in there. I love it. Plus, I think this kid's the real deal. He's still making some rookie mistakes & all that, but his performances have outshined any mistakes he's making. The kid is versatile and flexible. He could have a very bright future ahead of him!
  17. How'd you know? That was a helluva game (well, the first half, I couldn't decide if both teams' defenses were just that good or if both teams' offenses were having an off-day) that coulda gone either way. Give the Dallas D credit for finally stepping up their game and stopping Manning & Co. on 4th & goal. That was freakin' HUGE! Now, if the Cows had lost, they'd be calling for Vanderjunk's head on a platter. I'm still not sure they won't be, anyway. Missing two field goals like that is unacceptable, and even his PA attempts almost went too far right. I tell ya, if anyone'd told me, back when Bledsoe was still under the illusion that he was the Cows "best chance to reach the playoffs," that the Cows would beat a 9-0 team with an untested QB, I'da laughed my ass off. Now that Romo has proven that old f*ck Jones wrong, I hope they go ALL THE WAY, BABY!
  18. Another thing: anyone who has any preconceived notion that I am even remotely a "jazz fan" is nuts. I am no more a jazz fan than I am a rock fan, or a big band fan, or a bossa nova fan. If it catches my ear, that's all I care about. I hang out and post here because I enjoy the music made by a lot of the cats that get discussed here. If not owning a Bird record is tantamount to treason (as the great Nez sez) and is cause for banishment, well..... nice knowing you guys.
  19. Damn..... that's the last time I confess something so sensitive around here. Why don't I own any Bird? Goldberg hit it early on: limited time, limited resources. I listen to what I want to listen to, not what I think someone else thinks I should listen to. Of course I think Charlie Parker is a genius, and that pretty much anything I listen to owes a humongous debt to him; I'd have to be an even bigger damnfool than I already am to think otherwise. That, however, does not mean I want to listen to him when I'd rather be listening to something else. Simple and shallow as this: I listen to music as entertainment. End of story.
  20. Wow. Maybe somebody will start a smashmymosaic group... Hey, hey, HEY!!! Some of us are gonna need to sleep tonight!
  21. Well, now we know how to cancel those gym memberships that some people say are impossible to cancel!
  22. That's partly true, in my case. I've actually owned/listened to a couple of Parker discs, but they just never really rubbed off on me. Time will tell, though; I can't imagine going my entire life without eventually digging Charlie Parker on a personal level.
