  1. While I agree with so many collections listed (a Manne Blackhawk box and a Pepper Contemporary box.... mmmmmm!!!), I was kinda trying to narrow it down to some of the artists who led various jam sessions on Prestige, like Burrell, Garland, etc. But keep listing anyway; makes it much more interesting to see what's on folks' minds and besides, maybe just maybe, someone at Concord is reading.
  2. An excellent question. Listening to "Art Pepper Plus Eleven" sounds like it could've been recorded yesterday.
  3. That's the one. "Apeshit" is an appropriate description! Dead on in your assessment of that set; this track makes it worth the cost of the set alone.
  4. Ohhhhh YES!!!
  5. Avery's coaching like a man possessed, haunted by the final-round collapse from this past spring. Hard to believe the Mavs are the same team that started out 0-4 this season. Looks like it's gonna be an interesting ride again this season.
  6. Art Blakey-FREE FOR ALL Jack Wilson-EASTERLY WINDS John Patton-GOT A GOOD THING GOIN' Lee Morgan-THE GIGOLO Hank Mobley-SOUL STATION Freddie Hubbard-HUB TONES Wayne Shorter-SPEAK NO EVIL Horace Silver-IN PURSUIT OF THE 27TH MAN Jackie McLean-CONSEQUENCE Sonny Rollins-VOLUME 2
  7. Wow, I find that surprising. To me, the Byrd's are some of the most enjoyable Blue Note sessions. I think I could live without most of the Hubbard, Shorter, Henderson dates (except for Goin' Up, Etc & Our Thing) What, did you sell me your extra copy or something? Totally agree about the Byrds, especially when paired with either Pepper Adams or Jackie McLean (oh yes, OFF TO THE RACES!!!).
  8. Right also. Except for "Point of departure". No kidding? I think that one is his most overrated. Not even close to Judgement or Dance with Death.
  9. Went to AMG (sorry clem) to read the bio of McCoy, saw the words "soul jazz vibraphonist" at the beginning of the bio, and completely agree that a collection of his records would be wonderful!
  10. I voted for the Rich cuz it's on my Christmas list as well!
  11. Bob Brookmeyer and Friends (Columbia mono, which I guess is the only way it was ever released on vinyl)\ Found it for $8 tonight at a Half-Price Books. MAN I love that place!
  12. THRU 11/5 This coupon has been automatically renewing for some time now. Hopefully it will keep doing so ........ Now thru 12/18!!!
  13. Ooooooh! Now THAT looks cool!
  14. The Stitt Prestige Bebop box that's out. Hardly a household name in the music market.
  15. Listening to BIRD & DIZ, courtesy of the public library. Slowly getting bit!
  16. Oooooooooooh YEAH!!!!! Clifford Jordan SMOKES on this one! Some of the funkiest grooves this side of a Silver record!
  17. I've been on a serious Prestige 50's jones lately, having gotten the Miles Quintet box, and eagerly awaiting getting the Trane, Stitt, and future Trane & Miles boxes. Having that Stitt in there gives me hope that others like it may be in the works. If so, here's what I'm hoping for: Complete Kenny Burrell Jams (All Day Long, All Night Long, etc) Complete Jackie McLean Red Garland Small Groups (All Morning Long, etc) What say y'all?
  18. Is the Guaraldi colored vinyl?
  19. Ew! She even looks trashy from the back!
  20. No kidding!
  21. Malik has that scowl reminiscent of Mingus on the cover of MONEY JUNGLE. "Don't mess with me, motherf****r!"
  22. It's also very likely that Ms. Lohan's handlers' writing skills are on the same level. My 10-year-old writes better than this.
  23. AFAIC, this has THE definitive version of "A Night in Tunisia!"
  24. Hopefully to someplace in the DFW area! (If there's anyplace left....)
