Who's on it (besides Kenny)? Jay Hoggard (vib), Marcus McLaurine (b), Yoron Israel (d). Recorded live in 1989. Just my opinion, but this is one of my least favorite Burrell recordings of all time. I just find it kind of blah, even though I'm normally pretty easy to please when it comes to these types of recordings. His other Contemporary CD, "Sunup To Sundown" (with Cedar Walton, Rufus Reid, Lewis Nash and Ray Mantilla) is better, but still not among his best, imo.

What cool things does your pet do?
Jim R replied to Free For All's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm not sure if Duchess, our German Shepherd, does anything cool (her bark is very businesslike, though... haven't had any intruders in our back yard for some time ), but here's a heartwarming tale (I forget if I already posted this, so... ) About a year ago, my wife and daughter entered an old (roughly 8 years) photo of Duchess in the mail-in photo contest for this popular calendar: Some months later, during the Summer of 2005, the dog got very sick one day (we think it was leptospirosis... we do have rats, and she does kill them), and her condition deteriorated very rapidly. She had to be taken to the emergency clinic, and within a short time she was near death with an extremely high fever and failing bodily functions. That first night in the clinic, we were told that her chances were very slim. The next afternoon, the mail arrives and included in it was the aforementioned calendar, with an attached letter of congratulations. The kids were pretty excited, but the excitement was of course tempered by the situation we found ourselves in. Long story short- she pulled through, with no serious damage done! In case you happen to see the calendar, she was pictured on February 7th. -

Like FFA said, I could change my mind soon (maybe not by tomorrow, but soon), and there are MANY that I could choose. Anyway, let's just say these have been high on the list for awhile: A Time For Love Sometime Ago

Three of those actually were mentioned above, but they bear repeating. Eric, here's a shot of KB with the Gibson L5 he was using circa '63 / '64, customized with a "Charlie Christian" pickup... what a sound. Apparently that guitar was lost or stolen. On "Night Song", and some other recordings from the late '60's, he was using a bigger guitar (an 18" D'Angelico), also with a single-coil pickup (a DeArmond 1100). Luscious sound.

I hear you on the Walter Davis Jr. / Walter Bishop Jr. And speaking of piano players and names with W's, I always thought there were too many piano players whose last names started with "Wal" (Waller, Walton, Waldron, Wallington...), not to mention all the other W's- Wilson (Teddy, Jack), Williamson, Wyands, Weston, Wellstood, Wiggins, Werner, Wofford, Williams (Mary Lou, James, Johnny, Jessica)... but I'm over it now. Also, I used to mix up June Christy and Chris Connor.
