  2. That's scarey good. Looks like Andreas has listened to a little Barney Kessel and Django. Django for sure, but the stuff he was doing on the archtop didn't really remind me of Kessel... more like Robert Conti, Jimmy Bruno, etc.... firework city! I have to say, though, that as awesome as his technique is, and as exhilarating as it is to watch (especially for a guitar player with close to no chops ), I also find it kind of tiring. Take a breath, for cryin' out loud!

  5. My memory may be playing tricks on me, but I think Jackie only plays on one of these albums, the one with the session from 1952. Guy Right- 1501 only.

  11. My memory is foggy. Was this ever aired on tv?... PBS? I do distinctly remember a profile of McLean- probably a 20-minute segment of an hour-long magazine show- years ago. In fact I may have taped it. I want to say it was hosted/narrated by Ed Bradley, but I could be wrong. At any rate, my recollection is that it was excellent. Jackie's warmth and "presence" as a leader and educator really came through loud and clear.
  12. I'm just curious... since I rarely use AMG, does anyone have opinions as to how Ginell rates as compared with other AMG reviewers in terms of accuracy and credibility? I've seen various reviewers of theirs criticized on the boards, but haven't sorted out who's who...
  13. Neither would I. I simply thought that Genell knew something I didn't, as a simple check with the AMG itself reveals that 'Waltz' was recorded several years before the Clark tune. Right... although generally I wouldn't use AMG as a way of trying to date anything.

  16. Well... there is some similarity in the opening notes of these themes, but overall (both melodically and harmonically) there's not that much similarity, to my ears. "Clearly provided the basis for Bill Evans' famous 'Waltz for Debby' "...? I wouldn't make that assumption.

  18. Bernstein's playing rarely reminds me of Grant, at least overtly. He's got a lot of Jim Hall in him, too, and plenty of his own thing. I was going to say the same thing. GG's influence is clearly there, but to my ears, Peter's got his own sound.
