  1. I grabbed this about a month ago. Time (finally) to get rid of the shitty old cassette copy. It occurs to me that this CD is labeled with "Decca Originals". I don't know my label affiliation histories as well as I should by now, but even if ABC Paramount was affiliated with Decca, this still looks odd somehow...
  2. What?! Goofy posts on a message board?!
  3. http://www.kcsm.org/fcc.htm edit: I posted this as it relates directly to a great jazz station and a music documentary with which most of us are familiar. If it's too close to politics for anybody, I'll delete it.

  11. Hmm... I'm not that excited about $8.99 (and there aren't too many BN's I'm looking for anymore). To me, a sale to get excited about was something like the "Tech Wave/My Shop Now" sale of 1999. Great variety of offerings, at what- $5 a pop? (I've forgotten already).

  13. That's what I was afraid of. There's certainly some out there, but the acoustic guitar was always dominant in this genre. There were a few brazilian players who used electric guitars back in the day (e.g., Roberto Menescal, Heraldo do Monte, Geraldo Vespar) but they didn't stretch out much by today's standards. The recordings are also relatively difficult to find. You're probably better off looking for recordings of bossa/latin music by jazz guitarists. Here are a few ideas: Joe Pass- TUDO BEM (Pablo) 1978 Barney Kessel- GUITARRA (aka "KESSEL'S KIT") (RCA/Japan) 1969 Barney Kessel- Breakfast at Tiffany's/Bossa Nova/Contemporary Latin Rhythms (Reprise/Collectables) 1966 Larry Goldings (Peter Bernstein)- CAMINHOS CRUZADOS (RCA Novus) 1993 Gotta run right now... I'll keep thinking.

  19. Yep, seemed to be down for awhile this morning. It looks like it's up at the moment (fingers crossed)...
  20. Pure beauty, imo. If you enjoy Jobim, but haven't explored his output thoroughly (or are burned out on his big hits, and kitschy renditions of same), try this superb group for a change of pace: Sabia More M2/S here...

  22. Some great suggestions already, but perhaps if you supplied a bit more info regarding your favorite players (as Lon suggested), eras/styles, etc, it would be easier to make some specific suggestions...

  24. Yes, although I couldn't recall if that show (aired some time ago) was of the same title. Perhaps that was something of an intro... or "pilot". This sounds like it will have all the insight and excitement of a BET production. "artistic accomplishment"... this is of course a key factor, maybe THE key factor, and one which will likely be lost on a very high percentage of people tuning in.
