  5. I love Nat- even a lot of his later recordings, but... I'd never buy this. Too much filler, too many song titles that make me go Like a lot of boxed sets, it's just too much, IMO (like some other boxed sets I've bought ). I have a few individual reissues and compilations of this stuff, as well as a Capitol 4-disc set (with booklet) that came out in 1992, and it's all good, almost no throwaway cuts. I can do without things like "When Rock and Roll Come to Trinidad", "Coo Coo Roo Coo Coo Paloma", etc., especially at ~$19 per disc. I was recently lusting over BF's "Blowing The Fuse" R&B series, but where I saw them, they were $24 per disc. I know BF does nice work, but... Still don't own any BF's...
  6. My only Lonehill as well, and I agree. Not only that, there was one track from the LP omitted ("everything started in the house of the lord").

  11. I have everything on CD now, but here's what's left of my GG LP's Grant's First Stand (W63rd) Green Street (NY USA) Remembering (Blue Note / Japan / GXF 3071) Gooden's Corner (Blue Note / Japan / GXF 3058) Oleo (Blue Note / Japan / GXF 3065)

  15. Yeah, but I thought we all agreed we were going to be rabid, possessed, uncontrollably obsessive/compulsive jazz fanatics and buy everything in sight. Did I not get the memo here?

  17. I know what everybody means (that's why they call me Kreskin a lot ), but it occurs to me that I own a lot of Concord stuff. Much of it is guitar players (Burrell, Farlow, Bickert, etc), and much of it is the Maybeck material, but there are also some good titles by Art Farmer, Stan Getz, JJ (love his "Vivian" CD), etc. Anyway, my Concord mileage has been okay (but then I do have superior taste).
  18. The real reason is probably that they wanted to create something distinctive that would make them unique for Torino. The designers tell us that the reason is that they wanted to express the feeling of the open spaces within the Italian piazzas (sp?). I actually like the design.
  19. Apparently so. Let's do the math - D I C K B O C K = O N S M A C K Assign each letter a numerical value of its position in the alphabet, and we get: 4 9 3 11 2 15 3 11 = 15 14 19 13 1 3 11 Now, let's add: 4+9+3+11+2+15+3+11 = 15+14+19+13+1+3+11 58 = 76 Add again: 5+8 = 7+6 13 = 13 And to remove all doubt: 1+3 = 1+3 4 = 4 Therefore, Dick Bock was indeed on smack. Q.E.D. Good lord. For one brief moment, I actually thought about checking your work for accuracy.

  22. I saw that set once (used) for about the same price. I was tempted, but I didn't pull the trigger. IMO, it might be too much of a good thing, in a way. Now please, don't anybody prove me wrong- I don't want to regret passing up such a great deal.
  23. I don't think I ever took the plunge (maybe somebody warned me ). At any rate, if it feels good, do it, and more power to 'ya.
  24. Actually, (a common error) it's Jed. Otherwise, the opening line of the theme would go "Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jeb, a poor mountaineer barely kept his family feb..." (Obviously, this was far too important to just let it slide). ====== Dan Blocker Michael Landon Pernell Roberts
