  3. I've neglected King's recordings for too many years... possibly because they're so ingrained I feel like I don't need to buy them. I think another reason is that I've always expected to come across a boxed set where I could grab large chunks of essential material at a time (like the T-Bone Mosaic set). I still haven't seen any boxed sets of King's work that really tempted me... but I haven't really looked carefully. Have I overlooked anything? I just recently bought the 2 CD set "Original Greatest Hits" on EMI. I found it in a used bin for $12.95, and couldn't resist.

  6. I've got about 20 versions of "Emily"... Joe Beck / Red Mitchell Joe Beck Tony Bennett John Campbell Paul Desmond Bill Evans Irene Kral Lou Levy Mundell Lowe / Lloyd Wells Warne Marsh Mary Osborne Art Pepper Bill Perkins Oscar Peterson Oscar Peterson / Marian McPartland Zoot Sims Martin Taylor Cal Tjader Stanley Turrentine I just listened to a bunch of them...and so far, no verse anywhere (although a few featured nice introductions). When I think of verses, I automatically think of Ella first- especially the "Songbook" albums. A treasure trove for anybody looking for verses.

  16. I agree with this, and I don't like the idea of encouraging the labels to continue with these "PFL" packages. Most of us have sizeable collections already, and if we want a ballad compilation for any reason, it's easy enough to create our own. That's another thing that's always bugged me about compilations- they rarely choose the tracks I would have chosen. To each their own...

  19. For starters, you could spend WAY less time on your posts (and edits thereof) here... and shorten your frigging thread titles! (try using one question mark at a time)

  24. Yeah, what did? I was a big fan back in the day... He was always about writing... delivering those well-prepared monologoues. Maybe he's still writing for somebody. Beth Littleford was good. I'm surprised she didn't get a sitcom or a sitcom role (maybe she did... I don't watch sitcoms ). "Patti Rosborough" isn't ringing any bells, nor is . I must have missed her...
  25. Fwiw, it worked fine for me yesterday, and I just used it a minute ago with no snags.
