  1. ... I think I strongly disagree with that. Are you talking about all labels, or just Muse, or...? Anyway, I'm with those who do desire original artwork (and hopefully good quality, respectful reproductions of same). Yes, part of it is nostalgia, but there's more to it than that. For me, cover graphics are an important part of the entire package. The music sets a mood, the artwork sets a mood (sometimes the two are more in harmony with one another, and sometimes less so, but there's still a visual stimulus there that I find important). In general, I think Muse's original cover art was less appealing than a lot of other labels, which makes me more relaxed about Dorn's choices than I otherwise might have been, but that red X thing is just plain odd, IMO. It would be interesting to hear the full story regarding that decision... maybe it would make more sense if explained.
  2. Obvious nickname? Hmmm...........depends. ←
  3. No doubt. Whenever I see a post by wesbed, I immediately think of the name DEEP would have given him (or maybe he did, for all I know). It just happens- I can't help it. -_- Rather than posting it, let's see if anybody else comes up with it... it seems really obvious to me. No offense to wesbed, BTW. My moniker was "Jim R (you for real)".
  4. Wow- I figured some good deals would come along (after I paid full price), but that borders (no pun intended) on the ridiculous. Anybody who's even the least bit tempted to get this really ought to jump on that offer before they change their mind.
  5. The "Plano Volcano"? (oops, wrong thread)
  6. 9.2, 9.4, 9.2, 9.6, 9.5, 9.8 (Good, but you're gonna have to nail your floor exercise).
  7. This one's been around for some time, I think (I had bookmarked it, and can't remember doing it), but I don't know if anyone ever posted a link here.
  8. ...but wait, what about- ... I mean, aren't you gonna... ... shit, I think he's GONE! A man of few words!
  9. Oh, and congratulations on your 11,100th post! (I should have waited for #11,111, but I'm compulsive).
  10. One of the main reasons it's underrated is that "bigmouth" here has always preferred Feelin' The Spirit.
  11. To make matters even better, I think THE LATIN BIT is one of Grant's best (and most underrated) sessions.

  16. Absolutely positively not Burrell, and although I already stated that I was also leaning toward Benson, I'm beginning to have second thoughts. Something about the way this guitarist phrases suggests to me that it's not Benson. There seems to be more similarity in that regard to Pat Martino, but I'm not yet prepared to say it's Pat, especially not knowing how old this recording is. I don't have much by either player in an organ setting (as much as I enjoy this kind of stuff, I don't actually own much). Still workin' on this...

  18. "If you're like most folks born between 1960 and 1990..." ...so... am I supposed to be in a "home" now, or something? "...you have a hundred or more CDs." A HUNdr-... HEY, how come we don't have a "spit take" smiley?

This should help to clear things. ← Believe me, I have lusted over that one for several years (in fact, some of that seller's guitars have been illustrated in books that I own). BTW, I do think it's the same L5 as the one on that LP cover. Distel has had a number of guitars, though- seems like every time I see a photo of him, he's using a different one. Anyway, the guitar in the image you posted above (hidden headstock) was something different... not a Gibson. ======================================= Jim, you could be right. She may very well have gone over my head (and past my ears) at the time.
  24. You're in Florida, and you're taking a vacation? Enjoy it. I want in, although I'll be vacationing in the first part of August. But I'll participate at some point. PM forthcoming...

Yes, so it seems- the good, the average, and the stupid. I'm probably a bit more tolerant of some of the more "easy listening" type material than some jazz fans, but some of the highly commercial, overexposed tunes I could do without. Thanks for the photos! I like that one with Sacha Distel... too bad I can't see the name on the guitar's headstock. Brownie, thanks for mentioning the sides with Chet. I forgot to mention it, but I do have those (the only Valente recordings I had until I bought that compilation CD). She didn't impress me a great deal on those, but she really did a beautiful job with Bonfa on that (unidentifed) TV show. Did she have her own show in europe? I noticed on eBay that she hosted (according to the seller) an episode of "Hollywood Palace" back in the late 60's. I was surprised... I don't know how active she was in the U.S. (I don't remember seeing her on variety shows when I was growing up). ===== Edit: Wow, more info added while I was posting. Nice to see that photo with Chet. I guess I need to check out her website (hadn't thought of that ) Thanks! ===== And thanks, Tjobbe.
