  1. I don't see it quite the same way, Dan. Clearly, the ball should be protected on every play, but some turnovers are more a result of extra effort or clever plays by the defense, and some are just gaffes by the offense. This particular game had two somewhat unusual variations which might be placed at opposite ends of that spectrum (the "take-away" from behind by the Oregon defender at the end of a run; and Winston's unfortunate give-away). Neither of those occurs anywhere near as often as the type where a ball-carrier gets it jarred loose by an arm or a helmet or whatever. At any rate, I agree that this could have been a pretty close game if not for all the TO's.

  3. Finally about to get over the hump? I hope so, but we'll see... OSU looked very good yesterday, especially after trailing pretty big against a #1 team like that. What a debacle for FSU. All those turnovers, losing by 39 points, the QB gets in a shouting match with the head coach, and more than half the team (3/4 ?) fails to come out and offer a handshake after the game.

    IPod Question

I used Senuti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senuti) to restore music to iTunes after our 2011 iMac hard drive crash, and found it very easy to use. It costs about the same. As I understand it, there's a free trial version still available.

  12. This described me until recently, when I found out that I need to give up alcohol altogether due to heart (a-fib) issues. I was also having increased episodes of gout after drinking beer. Oh well, I was only an occasional/social beer drinker, although I did enjoy it very much.
  13. For me, it's 365 (or 366, if necessary). Let me know what time I should arrive, Bev (and get rid of those brussel sprouts please). Pretty sure my parents always did turkey. I always loved turkey and still do, but whenever I heard about the other things people were eating at Christmas, it kind of reinforced my feeling that perhaps it was too soon after Thanksgiving to be doing a big turkey feast again. For the past 30 years or so, the only Christmas dinners we do are with my in-laws, who are both still living. We've usually had either ham, cornish hen, prime rib, or some combination of those. Damn, this thread is making me hungry... Not sure I've ever had goose. Is it greasier than duck? I've had plenty of duck.
  14. I still wonder whether the original film excluded Burrell's and Kessel's solos, or whether someone edited those out at some point. Between the two, I'm hoping it's the latter. Anyway, I'd be more interested in buying this if the performance was complete. I love Grant, but video footage of Kenny Burrell from that period isn't exactly growing on trees either.

  19. I haven't heard "Grandma..." for awhile, but the other three seem to be played about once every half hour on 24-hour Christmas stations. Another one that they beat to death is Elvis' "Blue Christmas". Yesterday while doing some decorating, I was shuffle-playing the Christmas material I have in iTunes, and I heard something that I really hated (hadn't heard it for a long time): "Christmas Time (Is Here Again)" from The Beatles "Artifacts" collection. I'm a Beatles fan, but this is so monotonous (and it's nearly six minutes long!) that I couldn't take it. It's like they were intentionally trying to annoy people with this song.

  22. Burrell recorded "How Could You..."/"Sultry Serenade" for Columbia (part of the "Moten Swing" CD release on Euphoria several years ago); Cadet ("Cool Cookin'"); and also for Muse ("Ellington A La Carte"). It also appeared on Sinatra's "Swing Easy", Garner's "Concert By The Sea" and "Dance Awhile With Doggett" (w/Billy Butler)...
