On a related note, this wonderful article written by board member Joe Milazzo was linked in the "Jazz Blogs" thread awhile back: http://www.bagatellen.com/archives/frontpa...00664.html#more

No problem, tooter. I suppose I was encouraged by the fact that I found something on the first try (the Wes). I hope Mr. Sheldon will report back... anything would be easier than finding the images tooter's looking for!
-
I'm glad it was an improvement, tooter. Still no luck with any of the other titles from your list that I've had time to check on, but I'll keep looking...

Absolutely, I think we would all agree on that. His prices were so good, he usually sold everything he had to folks in other time zones while I was still asleep.

I suppose that very few of us really "knew" Ken. I did not, although I had three or four transactions/e-mail exchanges with him over the past few years. So, this is not an attempt to pretend that I knew him. As I said in B3-er's thread, I sincerely value his contribution to my music collection, though it's only a small portion of it. I just thought it would be nice if everybody posted about something (whatever everyone may remember) we got from Ken (actual CD's, recommendations, or whatever). Here are some things I remember buying from Ken, most of which I may not have found otherwise... Stanley Turrentine- Jubilee Shout!!! (Blue Note) (Japan) Kenny Burrell- Concierto De Aranjuez (Meldac) (Japan) Kenny Burrell- Listen To The Dawn (Muse/ 32 Jazz) (Japan) Kenny Drew- Piano Night (Meldac) (Japan) Kenny Drew- At The Brewhouse (Storyville)

tooter, I'm not sure which cover you have for the Wes (Philology) recording, but this is the one I have (found it on a Japanese site... wish it were a bit larger):

I agree completely. I've done a lot of editing of eBay images (LP sellers tend to photograph covers from an angle), but sometimes it's the only place to find rare images. And yes, like I said, Google can be very helpful, but you sometimes have to be persistent in going through several links. A Google Image search alone only works occasionally in finding a CD-sized scan. As for the Ronnie Ross, that sounds like a difficult proposition, but you never know what might turn up. I wonder if the talented Mr. couw has seen this topic yet (he has a knack for finding images, and of course editing them).

10 Organ Records You Must Own To Post Here

All this organ shit is getting old. I say we take over the board and initiate a new, crisp, fresh, HIP instrument theme!... -
I knew that! B-)

I used to have some good sources for this, but many have dried up over the past few years (Walmart used to offer nice large scans, for example). For awhile, there were some Japanese and Korean sites that had a lot of large scans. These seem to come and go. The best bet is probably to try Amazon, and/or use Google. Sometimes I don't find what I'm looking for using a Google Image search, but if I use a regular web (text) search and then open the various links that come up, I often find a nice image that way. If you could list some (or all) of the titles you need, I'd be glad to try to help out (we could post them here for you)...

Terribly sad news about a fellow forum member
Jim R replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Forums Discussion
I am shocked and surprised by this news. I had no idea Ken had been ill... I never really exchanged many messages with him. I had been aware of his recent absence from the board... but assumed he would be returning. Ken sold a lot of CD's here on the board, and he provided me with some pretty obscure import titles that I probably wouldn't have found otherwise. Anybody who brings music into my life is appreciated greatly, and I will remember this Toronto gentleman whenever I play those CD's. Thanks Ken. RIP. -
Dat's oddddd... woiks fer me! Try dis one (and if your browser has a "find" function, look for the two references to "It had to be you") http://home.nc.rr.com/tuco/looney/tome/b.html

Joe Benjamin / Benjamin Wolf / Wolfe Hudalla / Dolla Brand (I'm sure some of our members must be located in areas where "dollar" is pronounced "dolla")...

You and Jim R are on the right track with this. YOU know what he meant by dat? I dunno what he meant by dat!

I wasn't even sure how "Stabulas" is pronounced (never heard it uttered by anyone), but I thought the last syllable might be close to "Les". Basically, I HAD had enough at 19!! As far as the Richards / Richard connection, I figured I had to come up with a Richard whose last name begins with "S", correct? "Sutton" was the only one I could come up with (thanks to a reference book), and I didn't have enough gas left in my tank to try to build on "Sutton". Anyway, can you tell that I enjoy games? Thanks, it was fun.

I'm really enjoying #3 and #9, too (and really puzzling over them). I think I may own #3, but I'm not sure I've ever heard #9...
-
Tooter, thanks for elaborating. I see what you mean now. I'll try again... Sonny Clark / Clark Terry / Terry Smith / Smith Dobson / Sun Ra / Robert Conti / Conte Candoli / Lee Wiley / Lee Morgan / Morgana King / King Oliver / Oliver Nelson / Nelson Boyd / Boyd Raeburn / Bern Nix / Nick Stabulas / Les McCann / Ann Richards / Richard Sutton ... got my fingers crossed on the Stabulas / Les McCann part...

... ... shouldn't we discuss this before Christmas comes and goes?

I'm confused. I took the final syllable (son) from Wilson and connected it to the first syllable in "Sonny". I was following your example (now deleted) where you went from (Stan) "Roderick" to "Eric". Seems like the same thing to me... She's an Irish vocalist. I have one CD by her, called "Chasing The Moon" (Cargo). I also have a videotape of a TV show she did with Louis Stewart in 1987 (a Dublin TV show called "The Session", which also featured Mundell Lowe). There used to be an article about her here (seems to be gone now, but I could have overlooked it): http://indigo.ie/~jazzirl/index.htm
