I had the Marantz CD changer and had nothing but problems with the electronics- Error messages that took days to reset. Sent it out for warranty repair to no avail. I replaced it with the Yamaha CD-C600 changer and I'm very pleased. Ironically I replaced a 14 year old Yamaha changer with the Marantz. I gave it to a friend who continues to use it everyday. Crutchfield is great. You can likely find a discount coupon online, shipping is free and there is no sales tax. I landed mine for just under $300. I like that this CD player has a USB direct port that allows my iPod to connect and then it bypasses the Apple signal processor and uses the CD player's Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter. I've been very pleased with its functionality and sound. As a side note, I did try a multi-disc DVD player, but I found the shuffle to be very slow, which was problematic because I enjoy loading the changer and letting it shuffle through discs for me. I haven't seen this one listed yet.... A Secret Labyrinth: A Celebration of Music From the Middle Ages to the Renaissance

I'm about six shows (18 or so CDs) into this set and all I can say is "WOW!" As a casual listener of the Dead, I've come to determine the early '70s is my favorite era and '72 has always jumped out. Stellar set lists and a band at the height of their powers. 22 shows over 73 CDs would certainly be overkill for most groups but not the GD. The extended "Dark Stars" really speak to their ability to take things to the edge, something that really appeals to my jazz sensibilities. Absorbing this will be a project that will certainly stretch into 2012.

Piano Trio Format No Longer Does It For Me
greggery peccary replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Try as I might, I've never really warmed up to piano trios. I went through a Warren Bernhardt phase about 20 years ago, but all of the "great" ones (and I've tried 'em all) just fail to float my boat. Such is the subjective nature of appreciating music/art..... -
I just received their August newsletter email.

greggery peccary replied to blind-blake's topic in Classical Discussion
I've had this for years but haven't listened for about as long. I'm not vouching for it, but it would seem to fit the bill of the discussion. Small picture....Branford Marsalis "Romances for Saxophone" -

Klonopin Coma: a cautionary tale...
greggery peccary replied to Shawn's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I don't know you Shawn, but thanks for having the courage to share your tale. Good luck to you in LA. James -
POPMARKET? What is going on with them. I've tried to activate and account with three different emails and I never receive their invitation that allows me to full activate and establish my account. I just tried with my wife's email- strike 4! Has anyone else had a problem....I'm guessing not since you all seem to shop there. They send me their emails, their help desk tells me to refer to the email they sent that I never received. They further tell me that they can't generate a new activation request and once you initiate an account that doesn't come to fruition they can't clear the email from having "account" status. This is maddening. I get the feeling they really don't want my money.

Denis, Thanks for your interest. I'm going to hold out a couple of days to see if I can sell the whole lot in one shot. If not then I'll honor individual requests. I appreciate your patience. James -

Mosaic Sets for Sale
greggery peccary replied to greggery peccary's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Hey, what's the point of being a moderator if you don't get to f--- people up from time to time? Seriously -- I may have overstepped the bounds on this one. If so, I'm sorry; I'm certainly not perfect. I amassed these sets in numerous ways through the years- more often than not my wallet opened to do so. I'm a collector/bargain hunter like so many others here. I was very fortunate to have been able to work with Mosaic over the years. It was not without a great deal of consideration that I finally decided to sell some promos. To the moderators- your question was fair and I felt my response was sufficient. I apologize for not having thicker skin and subsequently lashing out. -
Mosaic Sets for Sale
greggery peccary replied to greggery peccary's topic in Offering and Looking For...
My answering of the question may have been reluctant, but your predisposition to something "being fishy" would have to be a factor in seeing it as hostile. You're right, I don't have to do business here and I won't. Your heavy-handed moderation is enough to keep me from offering items of interest at fair prices to fellow jazz aficionados. There are plenty of other places to sell where one won't get hassled. -
Mosaic Sets for Sale
greggery peccary replied to greggery peccary's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Please answer this seemingly reasonable question, Mr. Peccary. Failure to do so makes one suspicious. Suspicious? You're killing me. I spent many years as a journalist and collector. Moving along some sets that I don't/haven't listened to in order to get a Martin guitar. Something that I will enjoy on a much more regular basis. So you were sent these sets by Mosaic in the expectation/hope that, as a journalist, you would review/write about them? If my figures are correct, thirty-one of the thirty-eight sets you are offering for sale here are SEALED. You worrying about MY business is really something else. By your calculation, how many of these sets are promos? Are you aware of how many sets I may have acquired multiple copies of? Do you know how many sets I actually covered and reciprocated Mosaic's support with ink? Did you know that early on review copies were SOLD at a discount, not given free? Do you know how many, and which sets I still have (and GASP!!) may wish to sell at a later date because they're mine and it is MY RIGHT and MY BUSINESS to do so? I'd by happy to send you my credit card bills so that you can get your nose further/fully involved with what I do. -
