  1. Yes, Thanks for the tip on this. I also ordered it and I have to say that I'm impressed with how quickly I received it. They are an outfit that I hope to use again. I'm looking forward to hearing about some more great chamber music buys!
  2. I was just wondering what some thoughts might be as to the extended period of time that the Christy/Lee and Farlow sets have been running low and the CBS Small Group has been on Last Chance. Did Mosaic move them their to get some units sold perhaps? Maybe Mosaic is trying to give as much lead time as possible and this long goodbye will become more of the norm than the exception. I don't know. I thought I'd put it out for discussion........
  3. I think that's exactly what happened. I saw the Label Bleu going out of business thread so I started poking around google to see if anyone was deep discounting their product- I've recently discovered and am really enjoying Henry Texier- and I followed a link back to another Organissimo thread.
  4. Thanks, that did the trick. I appreciate your help! It must have been an errant click on my part. I'll keep that in mind going forward.
  5. Starting this evening when I go to a thread I get the first post and then list of subsequent posts in bulleted, abbreviated form Up till then when I went into a thread I saw each post and could scroll through a thread to read them. I don't think I clicked on anything that would change a view setting, but I can't figure out how to have my old thread view back. Any ideas?
  6. PM Sent. Wondering if you'll accept paypal. Thanks.
  7. The new 3 CD set "To Terrapin" from 5/28/77 is also a gem. Great set list, the band is on, and the sound on these discs is amazing. There is such clarity and presence. I had been really enjoying the Winterland Box, but this set was a revelation. I also managed to get the set for $15 shipped from Amazon. This sets a new standard for the Rhino issues and I hope that future releases sustain this level of excellence.
  8. Seeing the good luck that has been had here, I too am hoping to find The Vienna Art Orchestra's "Minimialism of Erik Satie." I know it is listed as an upcoming reissue, and yes it can be had for $50, but perhaps someone is willing to relinquish theirs closer to the original cost? Thanks in advance!!
  9. Hi, I have two Mosaic sets I'm interested in selling. -Kenton Presents Cooper/Holman/Rosolino. The box, booklet, and CDs are all mint. -Chico Hamilton Complete Pacific Jazz Recordings. Box and booklet are mint and the CDs (two jumbo jewel cases house all 6) are still sealed. This one has been fetching a king's ransom on ebay..... PM if interested please with an offer. Thanks GP
  10. you did better than i did....mine was $12.56! a bargain at any rate. it showed that there were 9 copies available as i placed my order. i suppose that you can make it 8.
  11. Yep, I'd guess that up to 5,000 of them would be 'Euro-Mosaics'. Do you think the number of "Euro" sets is really that high? It seems as though I heard that the domestic runs are handled in lots of 500 or 1000. It would seem reasonable that Euro runs would be handled in a similar fashion. Perhaps the language of the agreements splits production between the US and other markets. Nonetheless, it seems odd to put such a glut of product abroad all at once. 5,000 just seems like an awfully big number. I'd be interested to know.
  12. Mine arrived today, numbered in the low 2700s. This one ends far short of its allotted 10,000. Very impressed with the music thus far too.
  13. What are the "European" sets that are being mentioned. Mine came straight from Mosaic, so I assume it is an "American" set. Are these Euro sets ones that are packaged and sealed for sale at record shops in Europe? I recall seeing a bunch of Mosaics, some recently out of print, at the FNAC the last time we were in Spain.
  14. This doesn't happen often, but the Golson/Farmer set has bypassed running low and gone to last chance. Great set indeed. Get it while you can!
  15. Tony was in JT? I've never heard that before. What are the specifics? Thanks.
  16. How many are just a few? If that's the case it is interesting that they haven't moved the set to the last chance. Perhaps they are trying to thwart those who swoop in and buy multiple copies just for resale. Although recently a few sets that hit last chance were limited to one set per person......
  17. I too was underwhelmed by the Columbia set. To me it was somewhat uneven and some of the organ tracks elicited a cringe. Mosaic's collection sets like this are a treasure hunt. This one just turned out to be a little light.....
  18. I'd recommend genuine Frank Zappa, not Jr's cover band. The spirit of "Jr's Cover Band" is quite admirable. Furthermore his mission in the project (besides making a comfortable living) is to introduce a new generation of fans to his music. Some of Frank's music will be forever "dated" and therefore lack relevance to newer and younger audiences. I remember the Reagan years, Swaggart and some of the other references which permeate his final recordings. "Jr" sought to fill the band with younger players and the energy that they bring. I think that in the Spirit of all things Frank, dismissing this project is wrong. In a bonus interview Dweezil says that some tunes (which he doesn't name) are strictly off limits. He and the band could bring nothing to them. Others he aspires to tackle. He also says that he plans on making this a yearly thing for some time to come. So ZPZ will end up being the next chapter in FZ's legacy. I only have the DVD and have no interest in securing the audio recordings. I don't disagree that going to the source is essentially the way to go. However as a conduit for discovery and interest I think that ZPZ is to be applauded. Seriously, check out the DVD. Frank's groups had chops, but they have nothing on this group. Dweezil really does his father's music justice!!
  19. I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned, but for the holiday I treated myself to "Zappa Plays Zappa." All in all it think it worked on multiple levels. Once again, most aspects of Frank's music were showcased. Lesser known tunes stood there ground by those considered to be more tried and true. Steve Vai's guitar playing on Zomby Woof is 100% over the top. It is also a pleasure to see Napoleon Murphy Brock perform. He clearly enjoys this music and is, by virtue of the recorded legacy, an import part of a stellar era of Zappa. Dweezil also is a marvel. Whereas he came on the scene as a shredder, he has woodshedded and does an exceptional job of summoning his father on the guitar. The tone, phrasing, and mannerisms are all spot on. He even uses Frank's signature SG. He never resorts to imitation though, and that is very much to his credit. Great place to start as far as becoming acquainted with some of FZ's most enduring tunes.
  20. i'd highly recommend apostrophe as the next studio album. i think of it as the flip side to "Overnite Sensation." "Tinseltown Rebellion" would also be a worthwhile port of call. It has a little of everything, comedy tunes, doo-wop, screaming guitar and intricate instrumentals. I have about 50 Zappa titles. I think that "Ship" and "Civilization" are a bit much for the Zappa novice. "Live In New York" is also a worthy consideration.
