  1. cheap-cd's has it for $31 and change including shipping.
  2. they appear to be back on line, and they also appear to have the lowest price on the miles davis 4 cd blackhawk set. $31+ including shipping. that's a good deal.
  3. let's hear it for etta james. the best living and the best ever. "at last" and "i'd rather go blind" are classics.
  4. cicuit city has the bes deal this week. buy both the 3 cd set and the 2 dvd set for $30. all of the circuit city's around me were sold out, but if you take the add to best buy, they will match the price. it's really hard to beat.
  5. this should be great. my favorite van album has not been mentioned. how about "into the music." this is an absolute classic. side 2 maybe the greatest side he has ever recorded. as an album, it definitely stands up there with "astral weeks" and "moondance." as far as an artist goes, i would say van has recorded at least 5 - 5 star records. (the 3 mentioned above, plus at least 2 of these "st dominics," "his band and treet choir" and "tueplo honey"). this puts van in very elite company (the beatles, rolling stones, maybe elvis costello - help me out here). even my favorite band (led zeppelin) might only have 3 - 5 star records. van did appear to coast from for awhile there, but in retrospect some of those albums were unnecessarily dismissed. "days like this" and "the healing game" are particularly good.
  6. thanks for the reply. that would explain an ever decreasing price for the item, but it does not explain a wild swing from $60 to $10 and then back up to $120. the only thing i might be able to surmise is that i posted it in jazz only. a couple of the others were posted in jazz and r and b.
  7. okay, here we go again. this is something i will never understand. i noticed that the self titled cd by george duke (released by elektra in 1986) usually fetches a decent price on ebay (recently in the $60 to $70 range). i was lucky enough to find a used copy recently, and put it up for auction. it garnered 1 bid for the opening price of $9.99. needless to say i was midly dissappointed (i could use that money to buy some real jazz), that is until i saw the exact same item go for over $120 on may 8th (just a little over a week since my auction ended). then i was majorly dissappointed. the big question is - where were all those people when my cd was sitting there for the taking? i have a very high positive feedback rating, but except for a few items i am usually in the bottom third on final selling price. i will never understand it. illegal bids can explain some of it, but not all of it.
  8. ghost - me too. we must have been living in a parallel universe. does anyone remember the big time record label. i saw husker du and christmas on the "warehouse" tour, and it was one of the best shows i have ever seen. christmas only put out 2 to 3 records. the first was killer, but the others did not hold up. the first was released by big time, and never made it to cd. big time also had the lucy show. their 2nd made it to cd, but once again, the first one was better.
  9. i love this stuff. i've been on a huge jangle pop binge lately. i've been listening to rhino's "poptopia" series, and the yellow pills series. augmented with individual albums by the shoes, the records. tommy keene, and big star. that's great news about let's active. i had the original cd, but sold it a few years back when i need some money for other cd's. collectables has been doing a great job with this stuff. they released a josie cotton cd last year, that i ran out an bought asap. speaking of dream syndicate, i still think that "days of wine and roses" is one of the best albums to come out of the 80's. period. most of those kids rocking to nirvana in the early 90's wouldn't know what hit 'em if they were able to hear this record. unfortunately, they peaked creatively with that first album. the 2nd one is not nearly as good, but it did push me to purchase my first jazz cd (i've got some john coltrane on the stereo baby!), and the rest they say is history.
  10. i have one box each from jsp and proper, but they seem to have many interesting titles. anyone care to make any recommendations on these boxes?
  11. i am looking for volume 14 of Rhino's 18 volume Blues Masters series. "More Jump Blues" is the full title. it is the only one i am missing. i can buy or trade for it. any help would be much appreciated.
  12. my beloved bearcats are finished. those bastards. or as i would say on the new-old bnbb: ****! those ******* ********! what the **** am i going to do for the next 3 weeks. ****!
  13. that's pretty funny. with thelonious, you never know.
  14. oscar treadwell (aka arthur pederson) was honored in cincinnati last night for his contributions to the world of jazz. oscar treadwell was a jazz disc jockey who's been honored by songs by charlie parker ("an oscar for treadwell" and thelonious monk "oska t.") the best part of all this - he has decided to donate his 6,000 jazz cd collection to the cincinnati public library. yipee!
  15. dan - thanks. i actually knew jazzbo is lon. that was my sad attempt at humor.
  16. i was going to remain anonymous, but there's too many good people over here. i always wanted to be kulu se mama, but when i first registered at the bnbb (way back in may of 99), i just used 1/2 of my email address. i think alot of people feel - this is a new day dawning - might as well go with the flow. who the hell is jazzbo anyhow?
  17. you're a good man ed swinnich.
  18. i'm just glad i actually got to delete the "ebay craziness - redux" thread before the board disappeared. it actually felt good.
  19. b3-er, another refugee here. this place looks great. thanks for taking us on.
  20. i never thought i would leave the bnbb, but here i am. i didn't post much, but i was there every single day. this and the all about jazz site look promising. i honestly believe that the increased traffic to the blue note site caused by the norah jones phenom did us all in. they did not want the rest of the world to see all of the crazies and get scared away. next year at this time when norah is on emi or her new album has flopped, they may see the error in their ways.
