  1. i agree with quincy. i was thinking, "i've heard of Electric Miles, but i'm not sure what he means by Electric Bill." duh.
  2. yes lon, i was being very tongue in cheek.
  3. just reading the new ICE newsletter, and there is an article about the new norah jones cd. they quote tom evered, sr. vp of blue note records. i guess with all the extra norah money, everyone got a promotion. just think, i remember when his biggest job was dealing with us on a daily basis. i guess once they eliminated the board, he had a lot of extra time on his hand.
  4. vibes, the jim hall and gil evans cd's that you mention were part of the earlier collector's choice series. these were limited in number reissues of previously deleted cd titles. if i remember correctly there were 3 series of collectors choice titles. they are not identifiedon the cases in any way, but they did have white cd trays and a sticker on the cellophane stating "limited edition."
  5. i believe they send them out in close to numerical order. not all sets reach their full limit. the blue mitchell might have timed out. mosaic leases most of the music that they reissue for a set time and/or number of sets.
  6. aftab, i understand completely. i think it's a little ridiculous myself, but i'll take it. bob
  7. it is against ebay rules to contact losing bidders, but it happens all the time.
  8. i'm here, and that one even amazed me. the last time i checked on ebay, it had no bids. now i have enough for the mosaic select. go figure. vibes - thanks for the kind words even though you did not know if i would see them or not.
  9. chris, the charlie parker set is not a limited edition. mosaic owns this material, and they will keep it around forever (or so they say). bob
  10. "get it while you can" by howard tate - a fine collection of his verve recordings. or better yet, how about a mosaic select of his complete verve recordings.
  11. a nat king cole mosaic in "brand new condition" just sold for $66.66. that's only $3.70 per disc. that may be a record low for a mosaic. now that's crazy. helluva a way to start the new year - i'll be kicking myself for some time.
  12. wd40 not only works great on the residue it also removes any sufaces scratches.
  13. this was the first christmas in 9 with my wife that i did not get a mosaic, but i did get "no thanks - the punk rock box." i will probably wait until after christmas day to pop it open. merry christmas to all.
  14. jim, we probably don't say this enough - thanks for giving us this forum, and for taking care of all the nasty details. thanks.
  15. while hendrix's "all along the watchtower" is an all time classic, i have a special affinity for the xtc version. it is very quirky and jagged. it builds to such a point, that when it ends, i always have to hear it again.
  16. how about "the name of the band is talking heads" which is impossible to hear on cd. this one boggles the mind. david byrne must have some reason.
  17. the 2 A&M titles from the late 80's (Purple Night and Blue Delight) are very good if you can find them.
  18. "'bout soul" was recorded the day my wife was born, 9/8/67. the closest i can get is "sun ship" was recorded on 826/65, the day before i got here.
  19. my favorite part of the whole wal-mart stampede incident - wal-mart has the best day in company history (over 1 billion + in sales), and they offer to "hold" a $29 dvd player for the woman. i'm glad to be an american.
  20. i think a lot of criticisms are inaccurate. one has to take into consideration how the list was compiled. it was a collection of critics, musicians, and industry people. i am sure it was similar to the top 25 football/basketball polls. each person was probably asked to list their top 10 or 25. some of the records in the 400+ range might have only received a single vote. also, people tend to list the records that they return to time and again, and the records that were particularly influential on their tastes/career. that might explain the hits collections. also, if some people listed "meet the bealtes" and others listed "with the beatles" both would show up on the list somewhere. the perspective is a rock perspective, so you won't see lesser known jazz or blues records on this list, but just those records that might have made it to the larger audiences. i am not a hard rock fan, but i can admit that guns and roses were probably a pretty big influence today's hard rockers.
  21. the most amazing thing about this list - number 432 - "sleepless" by peter wolf. this is a good record that went completely unnoticed when it was released last year, and now it shows up on the greatest 500 albums of all time. totally amazing.
  22. i'm not sure if this was mentioned previously, but how about "lost in america." albert brooks is classic in this one. "you are never allowed to say the words nest and egg again."
