  1. brownie and lon - thanks for the info. that explains it.
  2. i know that this title is out of print, but i am curious as to why it is not included in the complete verve box. it was recorded in 1974 whereas the verve box seems to stop in 1970. i am assuming that while this cd was reissued by verve, maybe it was originally recorded for another label, and that is why it's not inlcuded. if anyone could shed some light - it would be much appreciated.
  3. they are both out of print in the u.s. "she shot me down" is available on amazon for a cool $99. "softly as i leave" is not available on half or amazon at this time.
  4. thanks for all the input. i will be going back to get the cd. i figured with the people involved it would be great, but sometimes all star jams are less than the sum of their parts.
  5. i saw a cd yesterday that i had never seen before. "giants of jazz in berlin '71" the musicians include Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Sonny Stitt, Kai Winding, Al McKibbon, and Art Blakey. it's on Emarcy. should i pick it up? it appears to be out of print.
  6. no slight taken. it's alot of dross up front, but the reviews are decent for popular entertainment. i try to keep a foot in the popular music waters. they have reviewed mosaics from time to time.
  7. great news scott. it's amazing how honest most people are when give the chance.
  8. actually, i read entertainment weekly. their move and popular music reviews can be good. you'd be surprised at the activity a review in entertainment weekly might generate. with an initial run of 2500 already sold, i wouldn't be surprised that a very positive review could'nt double those numbers.
  9. i just got an email from someone with contacts at rhino. there are no more copies to be had, but rhino had no idea that "entertainment weekly" was running an "A" review in this week's issue. the contact at rhino said they may have to look into pressing some more.
  10. thanks for the link, but it is sold out at rhino handmade.
  11. i am looking for this 5 cd rhino handmade release (and am hoping not to pay ebay prices). if anyone knows where i can find a copy either on line or in a brick and mortar store, i would greatly appreciate it.
  12. i think the drummer just died about 2 weeks ago. if you were a teenager in the midwest in the late 70's, at some point you got drunk and played air guitar to "slow ride" off of "foghat live." r.i.p.
  13. i would call her back. that was a long tome ago (i am assuming), and it's possible she doesn't even hang around the old crowd anymore. she is obviously interested in reconnecting with you, so what have you got to lose?
  14. thanks for posting the list. quite interesting. some of it is easy to see, but i am surprised by "the delivery man." it's such a recent record, and while it is a good record, i would be surprised if it topped many "best of costello" lists.
  15. i haven't been in about 4 years, but the last time i was there the friends i was visiting took me to a record store in the building of an old grocery store. it had to be one of the largest stores i've ever visited. i'm sorry, but i can't tell you the name of it.
  16. i remember when i didn't buy all of the thad jones / mel lewis mosaics when they were still in print. that was pretty stupid.
  17. scott, sorry for your bad luck, but should'nt this be titled "ugghhh!" or "doh!!" "ahhhhhhhh!!!" sort of sounds like what i say while eating some good ice cream.
  18. he is definitely a racist, and that alone makes him a fool.
  19. is that barbarella?
  20. if miles is dark funk, that presupposes a light funk, and what exactly would that be?
  21. fianlly, we're getting back to talking about jazz. miles is jazz, isn't he?
  22. "tunnel of love" is the most underrated album in bruce's career. the production is a little dated now, but the songs are incrdible. it never gets mentioned in any list of bruce's best.
  23. paypal has a virtual credit card that you can use at mosaic. the limit is $150 per day. go to the bottom of the page - click on shops. once that page opens click on shop anywhere. then put in mosaic's website and click okay. i use it all the time.
  24. ca - eat a large gino's east with pepperoni, mushroom, and spinach for me. it's worth the trip all by itself.
  25. here's one more reason why pie is better than cake. but i suppose the 2 chimps would vote for cake over pie (maybe).
