  1. i just received a receipt from cduniverse for my reduced price purchase in august, so i am assuming that means it's shipping, and at the good price.
  2. jim, thanks for the update. i will keep you and your wife in my prayers. i truly hope everything works out for the best. please let us know when you do find out what is going on. bob
  3. "tokyo live" is an excellent record. unfortunately, it won't be included on the select. it does go for big bucks on ebay (usually over $50). maybe if the select sells well, blue note will reissue it.
  4. the company has not only been brought up on charges, but the owner has had $27 million in personal savings (assets) frozen. the better business bureau and the state of ohio attorney general's office have had more complaints about this company than any other company - ever.
  5. i think pkd was the model for kilgore trout (just my personal opinion).
  6. how is bob dylan and sony any less corporate than starbucks?
  7. i must say i am partial to sam adams boston lager (and not just because the recipe is from right here in river city) and anchor steam.
  8. reminds me of a scene from i think "ruthless people." jeff daniels worked in a cheap stereo store, and he would always sell the largest speakers to the dumbest customers.
  9. greg - it's funny you should mention this one because it's the first mellencamp disc i purchased, and then i bought "words + music" when it came out.
  10. i have to admit that my opinion concerning john mellencamp has done a 180 degree turn. when he first became popular (around 1982), i was into punk and new wave, and i could not stand most of the preppie kids who liked "jack and diane" on the radio. well, 23 years later, while i still do not like his early recordings, i find that mellencamp continued to work on his craft, and my musical tastes have broadend (it's no longer us vs. them). his last few albums have been quite good, and his recent greatest hits collection does an excellent job of summarizing his career. some of the individual songs, such as "jackie brown," "you're life is now," "human wheels," and "key west intermezzo" are as good as anything popular music has had to offer in recent years. so i ask - who have you had to reevalute over the years?
  11. how about "music from the knee plays" by david byrne. it's never been on cd, and i would have to think that it would sell enough to make money.
  12. freaks and geeks - the collectors edition
  13. "nice beaver." "thank you, i just had it stuffed."
  14. don cherry / albert ayler - vibrations here's the craziest one i've seen in awhile. i might have to sell my personal copy.
  15. i think it makes great business sense to manufacture limited edition sets. i can tell you there are sets in my collection that i only bought because they were about to dissappear. if they were available without fail, i would often find something else to spend the money on.
  16. well my 10 cd's arrived today. all verve LPR's. mel brown - chicken fat johnny griffin - JG ella fitzgerald - sings sweet songs for swingers oscar peterson - a jazz portrait of frank sinatra buddy rich - buddy and sweets sonny stitt - personal appearance james moody - james moody gene krupa - plays gerry mulligan arrangements j j johnson - j j's broadway steve kuhn - october suite if the sale continues for awhile longer i already have my cart filled with 10 OJC's.
  17. i would second the loggins and messina recommendation. i'm not a fan (in other words i don't know much about their music), but there was a story about thier reunion on the cbs morning show, and they are probably just waht you're looking for.
  18. that is one of only 3 suggestions i've ever made to mosaic. the other 2 are sam rivers blue note and byrd/adams blue note. i think they might have been working on the latter 2 before i made the suggestion, but i am still hoping for the akiyoshi box. that would be my first pre-order.
  19. i was going to ask about shipping today, and it looks like others beat me to it. my order (10 cd's) supposedly shipped on 6/2. so far it has not arrived.
  20. the videos are too cool. it's nice to be able to see and hear the band.
  21. i cracked this open this morning. it's very good. about a cross between dusty springfield and diana ross (of the supremes, not of later "muscles" fame)> i also enjoyed "sonic nurse." it reminds me a great deal of something i can't put my finger on. sonic youth have been around so long that they now sound like their imitators.
  22. not yet. i'm listening to "sonic nurse" right now. i'll let you know what i think of the bettye swann once i pop it open.
  23. i just received my last shipment at $4.99 per disc. here's my haul: sonic youth - sonic nurse the velvet underground - peel slowly and see jimmy smith - retrospective bettye swann - self titled collection guy clark - the essential blossom dearie - my gentleman friend jimmy giuffre 3 - the easy way alice coltrane - universal consciousness willie bobo - a new dimension mel torme - ole' torme brubeck and desmond the paul butterfield blues band - the elektra anthology i think my total haul at $4.99 will be about 96 individual cd's (including many box sets). maybe it's a good thing that they've raised the price. i think i've found my break point, and it appears to be $4.99.
  24. i saw 2 used copies over the weekend. the only problem is they were at a store i only get to about once every 2 weeks. if they are still there when i return, i will pick one up for you. if you snag a copy before then, just let me know.
  25. john coltrane - a love supreme charles mingus - black saint and the sinner lady sonny rollins - way out west grant green - idle moments larry young - unity
