Any more CDs from the Keepnews Collection?
monkboughtlunch replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
yes - they came out in early june. but any word on the series since fantasy remastering team apparently laid off? -
I'm curious if the Keepnews collection will continue. I really liked the great sound quality and unissued tracks on the Cannonball San Fran CD issued recently. Are there any titles planned for future release? There has been discussion that the tapes were moved to Iron Mountain and Fantasy remastering team allegedly laid off by Concord...so just curious if this series will continue.

Hi - what I call an amateur soundboard is when a house audio engineer makes a "secret dub" off the PA feed for his personal collection, often on a prosumer reel to reel tape deck and therefore at a tape speed less than the pro resolution standard. The intent not being to create a recording of high quality for commercial issuance, but rather for a personal collection.

Anyone know how this history behind the recording of this show? http://www.concordmusicgroup.com/albums/MJFR-30312/ Can we expect pro-stereo? Pro-mono? Or amateur soundboard, radio transcription or audience recording etc?

Grant Green - "lost" 1965 Verve sessions
monkboughtlunch replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
What about Hodges' "Wings N Things" and "Joe's Blues"? Does Verve still have the tapes for those date with Green as a sideman? Is it just me or does Verve not respond to any inquiries and remain closed-lipped about everything. Is there anyone who knows someone at Verve that can sniff these dates out? The 2 lost sessions above most likely to feature Young or Patton, and could be monsters. -
I bought a title off of the Concord web site. Get this: 1 CD. Shipping was $7. What's up with that ridiculous domestic shipping rate? And that was the only shipping option.

Is Green's version of "Let it Rain" the Eric Clapton song? -

Anyone have any information on if these sessions still exist in the Verve vaults? And who were the sidemen? Any chance of a release? Unusual Grant Green review on the Blue Note Website
monkboughtlunch replied to Steve Gray's topic in Re-issues
I understand the frustration with music being unavailable, but I don't think Cuscuna deserves this rant at all. Consider this: Cuscuna has reissued on CD EVERY SINGLE Grant Green Blue Note album recorded from 1960-1966 and released during Green's lifetime-whether he served as leader OR sideman. In addition, he has published numerous Green sessions recorded during this period which were previously unissued (even the first session rejected by Lion 1960). Most agree that Green's next stint at Blue Note, from 1969-72, is slight in comparison. Overtly commercial, sometimes overdubbed, repetitive vamps on a single chord with lesser sidemen ("lesserlights") than during the earlier classic period. That's not to say it shouldn't be made available, but it is understandably a lesser priority for a a corporate umbrella label that has vast holdings to reissue from numerous imprints. Still despite these obstacles, Cuscuna has reissued many dates from this lesser period, even sonically upgrading "Alive" and "Lighthouse," as well releasing (just last year) the 71 Mozambique sessions. Japan is a different market. It has greater population mass/concentration, which overcomes the distribution nightmares of the massive U.S. CD retail network. With the steadily progressing death of retail brick and mortar CD retailers assisted by the Internet and iPod, this may enable Blue Note to someday make the entire catalog available online for download--thereby circumventing the production, shipping distribution obstacles. -
why no u.s. rvg for cornbread? that's a stone cold masterpiece.

Lou Donaldson's best Cadet albums
monkboughtlunch replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Re-issues
Spain is also known for dubbing from a CD version if it exists. Remember that Stitt's DJ Lounge on the Argo label was first reissued on CD in Japan from the original tapes. Spain may have used this as the source for their bootleg. Regardless, Musty Rusty has not been reissued on CD before. The only the source Spain can use is an LP as they don't have access to the Universal tape vault. Ironically, those who buy this will in many cases unknowingly purchase an inferior sounding version and reduce demand for a future legitimate release from the original tapes. -

Past experience with labels from Spain suggest this will be an inferior sounding needle drop from an LP. -

As this "Musty Rusty" CD issued in Spain, it's likely to be a needle drop from an old Lp. Hopefully Universal Japan will get around to reissuing this on CD from the original master tapes. I have this date on Lp and it is wonderful! -
What sinks many of the Willis Jackson Prestige dates is the presence of Bill Jennings (or whatever his name was) on guitar. The guy plays the same pet licks over and over on every song.

What kind of guitar amp did Rudy Van Gelder have in the 60s?
monkboughtlunch replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
Can anyone confirm that Green really used the J-12T Ampeg? And what year was this model introduced? The T stands for tremolo but the reissue also has reverb. Did the original issue have reverb? -
RVG - El Hombre - does it contain a bonus track or not?
monkboughtlunch replied to monkboughtlunch's topic in Re-issues
how is the bonus track? is it from the same session? -
Anyone have this new RVG? Concord says it includes a previously unreleased track called "Song For My Mother." However, it's not listed in the track numbers on cd universe or Concord. http://concordmusicgroup.com/artists/album/?id=4413

yeah the honeydripper is extremely dark. hard to imagine someone signing off on that press check.
-
Has this Prestige Timmons date from 1965 ever been reissued on CD in the U.S. or Japan? Is this a good session?
-
El Hombre is a MONSTER. This is a must have.
-
Since Blue Note continues the popular series, does anyone know if Concord will continue their RVG series as well? Any new titles slated for Concord labels?
-
Was this Don Patterson Lp ever reissued completely on CD - or is it just spread out over a couple of compilations?
