Record label Impulse!’s ‘Coltrane 100’ celebrations will also take in reissues of classic records such as Ascension, Africa/Brass and Impressions; a best-of compilation highlighting his work from 1957 and 1958; and a sound installation put together by hi-fi specialist Devon Turnbull at New York’s Cooper Hewitt. The John and Alice Coltrane Home in Dix Hills, New York, and the John Coltrane House in Philadelphia will also open to the public for the first time this year.
To mark the announcement of the ‘Coltrane 100’ activities, the label has also shared a new video for the late artist’s ‘Acknowledgement’, from A Love Supreme. Directed by Kamasi Washington and AG Rojas, the visual features a recreation of of New Jersey’s Van Gelder Studios on the day that A Love Supreme was recorded there.
