    Klaus Weiss

Klaus Weiss was an important figure on the German jazz scene, one of the most swinging drummers in the Kenny Clarke tradition, like Joe Nay. But Nay did not keep his level, where Weiss always had good bands and taught a lot. He had good younger players in his band and kept the hard bop torch burning over here. I saw him live with the quintet, he swung and projected good spirits without making much of a show. I have a lot of respect for him. Maybe his records sound a bit academic, but the band live was always very good.
  2. I can relate to that. I felt the same when I once found the Larry Young and Shearing Live CD boxes at some second hand dealer.
  3. Just ordered a copy of this for a decent price: That part of the hunt is over. Listening to some samples convinced me.
  4. It's a selection of her Bethlehem and Colpix recordings. I doubt it is "complete" in any way, like the short description on the website linked says, but would have to dig out the CDs to check.
  5. This weekend's evening bottle was: 2020er Pfeddersheimer Grauer Burgunder trocken
  6. One of the worst Riverside album covers, IMO.
  7. Okay .... on tracks 5 and 9 the saxist and pianist are American, but neither was the leader. It's not Henderson. No.
  8. Far off ....nothing of what i hear as typical Coleman phrases.
  9. According to the ESP website it still is: http://www.espdisk.com/catalogue/4042.html Really interesting. Thanks for the link.
  10. This is the LP in question: Four tracks each - the four Farlow tracks were included in the Mosaic box set.. Cannot find any CD reissue of the others, but they were included in a 4 LP box set by Verve in Japan: https://www.discogs.com/release/9732791-Various-The-Verve-Collectors-Item
  11. Not Garbarek - that tenor player is from the USA.

    Buck Hammer

Anybody here remember this 2004 CD that was discussed here back then?
  13. Great comments! But no hits. At last someone who likes that guitar player on track 8. Track 9 is a straight quartet - tenor-piano-bass-drums.
  14. Thanks for putting up with this stuff! Now who is gonna guess the tenor on tracks 5 & 9?
