  1. I have a German Bellaphon issue of this - would like to hear more of the organist on that reocrd, Henry Cain.
  2. A friendly board member bought this for me from a US seller that wouldn't ship to Europe and mailed it to me - in May, 2021 - and it arrived today! The "outtake" of "Four Beat Cha Cha Part 2" to me sounds like the last part cut off to 45 rpm length. But it was worth the wait for this rarest item. Is this the same book?
  3. I was expecting something like that. But as someone posted, it is not all about guessing. Still, there is one tenor saxist on two of the tracks that should be recognized. If there is nobody for next month's BFT, I'll make good by compiling one that is all about guessing.
  4. This was one of the sets I missed, and I finally found a copy from a French seller at a reasonable price. Should arrive here within a week.
  5. IIRC I read somwhere (Lord Disco?) that the track of the Harold Land All Stars with Jackie Davis is different on the two compilations it appears, not just edited/shortened. So far I have heard only the first of the LPs linked below. https://www.discogs.com/master/488486-Various-Blowin-The-Blues https://www.discogs.com/master/921874-Various-This-Is-The-Blues-Volume-1 With Richard Bock you never know. It could be edited, or a different take, or both. The two Les McCann tracks with Hutcherson and Amy are cases in point, too - they were never issued on any Amy or McCann LP. Cuscuna added them to the Les McCann in New York CD version.
  6. http://thomkeith.net/index.php/blindfold-tests/ Hello all, this is my first in quite a few years, due to lack of time. Now that I am more or less retired, I have time again for such things. This compilation has a theme - although I'd be surprised if someone gets it. There are only three well known musicians among the people playing, so it's not about guessing, anyway. I'm really interested how you think about this music and the way they all play together. But be aware that it takes dedicated listening, there is little background music here. Do not be fooled by the opening track. Enjoy, and thanks for your time, and special thanks to thomkeith for his great job.
  7. Thjat cover is a clear reference to this 1979 album:
  8. If we have nobody to do one for March, I can put together another one (that would be totally different from the one for February). Unusual to have one guy to make two in a row, but - if you all would want and accept it ...... being finally in retirement, I have time again for such things.
  9. 1977 live recording in Paris. Nice. This Acrobat double CD has much better sound than the Fantasy CD reissues. I will ask them for their sources.
  10. AFAIK this never was on a commercial DVD. I only have a minor quality copy that Tjader biographer S. Duncan Reid sent me. He got it from Poncho Sanchez, IIRC.
  11. Big congrats! It comes at the right time.

  13. They never would have let anyone step on that car with shoes!
  14. Stepped over this today on discogs - it hurts a Cal Tjader fan.
  15. Those who follow Jim on facebook know that he started tuning and repairing all kinds of acoustic and electric pianos as well as other keyboards and even guitar amps to support his income, and he obviously does a great job. Saving all kinds of Wurlitzers from being dumped.
  16. Never heard Oliver Jackson do a bad stroke. Check out the JPJ Quartet albums.
  17. That was the session for San Francisco Moods. I fooled a few here when including some from this album in a blindfold test. He played organ on the 1970 LP Tjader.
  18. Was re-visiting these two over the weekend:
