  1. Same here !!!!! Please!
  2. maybe rocky can make one for you ... and add the solo from the Randy Weston as bonus track.
  3. So far I only found a Fantasy 7" 45 rpm of Vido Musso with two of the three titles from the session.
  4. To sum things up: Buy anything he's on, and he will be at the top of his game. Never had a bad note come from his horns. One of my favourites is a Bennie Green session on VeeJay, where he plays alongside Gene Ammons and Frank Foster, and steals the show!
  5. Had a listen to the duo CD he made with a drummer - Double Exposure with Cecil Brooks III. Have placed it on my wish list. This man sounds like a summary of older and modern Hammond stylings to me.
  6. Maybe you simply don't dig conga drummers - I find he was a real original (and he was respected by his collegaues as such, judging from what I was told), and his solo on Afro Black is extended but very well done. Don't know how he is on the Hubbard - never heard that one.

    SOUL STATION

I bought in the early 1980's (?) when French EMI issued a number of Blue Note LPs. Almost wore it out, know it by heart. Mobley was my top favourite saxist after I heard this.
  8. Maybe they simply edited the data of the previous OJC issue (which seems to be oop) and forgot to add it to the track list ...
  9. You see what you want to see, dontcha?
  10. Well, you still don't have the Winchester tracks ........ but otherwise I'm certain you have plenty of vinyl that I never saw, not to talk about other ways to relate to those black discs.
  11. The Zoot Sims includes a rare ABC album which I was never able to find (just to get even with brownie ... . He overdubs four saxes in fine George Handy arrangements.
  12. The first four tracks on the Fresh Sound Joe Holiday were made for Prestige and, of course, are on the CD posted above as well. But the remainder is rare stuff.
  13. ..... and I was just about ready to offer my vinyl to brownie after making a CDR with my friend's Alesis masterlink .... Seriously - if you want it, send me a PM. The Weston session is more important to me, and I reckon the CD will sound okay. I have that rare Trip LP too, but it has some annoying surface noise on one side. It's a very good live date with a long solo by Big Black.
  14. Larry Young's Prestige LP Testifyin', which features Holiday as a sideman, is also on CD: (Concord website link) The Holiday CD brownie mentioned is nice, available and includes all his leader dates for the label: (Concord website link)
  15. ... there is a trio LP! From the Fresh Sound website:
  16. Any type of percussion-heavy music, no matter what type or style.
  17. I think that was Mr. Gone. Guy Yes. I have the issue in my basement, with the cover story, "Storms Over 'Mr. Gone.'" I have it on the staircase shelves ..... sorry, my mistake - I edited my post above.
  18. That Zawinul's ego might be a little oversized is not news. When downbeat gave "Mr. Gone" a one star review, he went apeshit like a primadonna that had someone step on her gown. Some people need to draw a line between themselves and the others because they otherwise loose themselves - others can listen to as much music as they want and just take it as an inspiration. It has something to do with your self-consciousness and your self-image, both approaches have their advantages and traps. It's cool, as long as you don't offend others for taking a different direction. If he's really so sure of himself, he wouldn't need to put down Barry Harris or anyone else - I wouldn't call Barry Harris an imitator, I can tell him from Bud Powell, but perhaps Joe couldn't or was afraid of the process to immerse himself into that school and perhaps not get out. Bud was a strong spirit, but so is Barry, in his own way - maybe Joe is of the kind that would loose himself if he gave himself away to that style to such an extent. And there was an individual touch already there when he went with Cannonball. Some have to take that route - just don't accuse anyone for taking a diffent path, 'cause that's plain arrogant. I sense that Joe might be the type questioning everything he does - if you can't control that side of yourself, you need to say your way is better than the other's - I'd say he should go see some Hakomi therapist or whatever, or stop justifying himself. p.s. edited: confused Heavy Weather and Mr. Gone
  19. The answer was given in post # 136 above: Sorry, Mike, somehow I missed that post. - could have been me .....
  20. and then Jaco. Read his interviews. I remember an interview where the thrid name he mentioned was Scott La Faro, and he saw himself just as an extension of this line.
  21. That weird reverb certainly was more common in rock - reminds me of Hendrix' Watchtower single. Interesting thoughts ....
  22. The answer was given in post # 136 above:
  23. Allen, has the German Fono Forum review copy reached you?
  24. It's not such a bad thing when a recording makes one wish for more or for better ... that weird sound (overall, not just the piano) gives it a unique quality, but Chuck may be right in calling it a missed opportunity. Maybe circumstances were not optimal for reasons unknown?
  25. JPC recently had the Bitches Brew long box for € 25 - less than half of the list price. But they were gone in no time even though they announced it only in their monthly magazine, not on their website. I ordered one as soon as I held the brochure in my hands.
