Those Milestone albums somehow bear the mark of their time, but I like them all. Got "I've known rivers" in the recent Zweitausendeins sale - a very energetic Montreux festival live recording.

Spinning it right now: The rhythm section was Herb Pomeroy's (Ray Santisi, John Neves, and Jimmy Zitano) - Lem Winchester was invited as a single to the festival. His peculiar sound is there, but it's three standards (Now's the Time, Polka Dots and Moonbeams, and Take the 'A' Train) in simple head arrangements - much like a jam session, but the level is very high - you can hear a great vibes soloist, that's clear. But his own musical vision comes through much better on the Prestige sides, even on the sideman dates. I will see if I can make CDRs later this year - depends on when my friend can spare his Alesis machine for a week.
-
I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed by Winchester's Newport appearance - not as individual as the Prestige sides. The Weston tracks were worth the price of admission, though - but Weston was much more advanced in his artistic formation, I guess, than Winchester. I will give it a spin and report.

Make sure you have no background software operations running, like virus guards, screensavers etc. - they will cause the defragmentation to start all over again. I you haven't done it in a long time it may not be easy at first and take verrrrry long. It also may be necessary to run Scandisk before the process - but Windows usually prompts you to do so. It is recommended to run it at least once a month - and a registry cleanup software may also be appropriate, if you install and uninstall software frequently.

Last art exhibition you visited?

Guy, I was there on my last visit - had to stand in line over an hour to get in. They're lovely - but the more than 200 pieces shown in Frankfurt are overwhelming! I second your recommendation of the Musée Marmottan - and would add the Musée Rodin with its nice garden. But there are so many in Paris .... -
what are you drinking right now?

Last art exhibition you visited?

Earlier this week I had a few hours off in Frankfurt and went to see an exhibition of graphics and paintings of Odilon Redon at the Schirn Kunsthalle. I urge anyone with an interest in this fascinating artist to pay a visit - a representative overview is very rare, his works scattered all over the world. And his colors (after decades of black and white art) are impossible to reprint - they glow from the inside! -
I can't find Steve Reynolds' AOTW from January 28 to Fabruary 3 - did he start his thread?

What's Concord up to now?

I don't expect Universal to press any rarities for their European market. The US CDs are still available through amazon/caiman or other amazon sellers at reasonable prices. Considering that the OJC catalogue alone has 1000 titles, it will take them some time. But at this time they do not import any of the US pressings still available from Concord, they sell only their own manufacture. -
I would like to do that, but I bought so many last year during the Zweitausendeins sales .... at least some obscures from the wish list were among them, but most were not, but at 2 or 3 € a piece one would have a hard time to resist.

That helped - rather short samples, really too short to make a judgement, but somehow I have the impression that on the Meters original it sounded much looser. They're impossible to replicate. It's not a sample, you played it yourself, so you deserve a compliment, but from that short excerpt I cannot see if there's much more happening.
-
A mess indeed - same here. I will try rockefeller's links.
-
That's the Meters track Cardova mixed in, thus the polyrhythms - without this overdubbed sample it wouldn't be so thrilling. I find it a liitle uncoordinated - somehow goes nowhere - or is the clip on ebay just a messed up excerpt? Sounds really weird!
-
I hear a sample from a Meters track in the mix ..... a little weird, man!

Please be so kind and post a link to that "other thread" - things are gettin' kind of intricate here ......

Now that some Fantasy/OJC reissues are seemingly out of print, offers like this turn up on amazon.de. Totally ridiculous,as the same CD is available from amazon.com sellers for $ 17,90 .....

schuberts last 2 piano sonatas

On a modern piano (a 1923 Bösendorfer), Paul Badura-Skoda's recording on Harmonic Records (an extinct audiophile label from Paris) is my favourite - hard to find, though ....... -

I have most of Immerseel's CDs of the last twenty years, with less than five exceptions (the Strauss, which is on my buying list, and some Mozart concertos that I have nice versions of). Those ZigZag CDs are all worth the money. As for Schubert, I stepped on this CD purely by accident - go for it, it's worth every cent. And they really have only a handful of copies left - I actually wonder it's still there, as it was close to being sold out two years ago when I found it. Staier is great, too, but he's less poetic than Immerseel. Saw Staier in concert last week - Schumann - and live he's a little more spontaneous. He strives so much for perfection that on the CDs it can get a little too perfect. Immerseel's Schubert Trios on SONY Vivarte with Bylsma and Beths are beautiful, too. -
Yes - but it sounds like somebody squeezed what they don't have anymore .....
-
CD Universe lists it as available for $ 13.49 .....

That must have been the first ever encounter by jazz musicians with Turkish and Armenian colleagues. I found a copy in a sellout bin in the very late sixties and have loved it ever since.
